Curriculum Matters

Foundation

What a great week for our Foundation students!

Together we enjoyed Multi-Age Day, Junior Cross Country, National Simultaneous Storytime and the Biggest Morning Tea. A big thank you to our grandparents and special friends for visiting us.

Level 1

The Level 1 students have been having lots of fun learning about, making and decorating kaleidoscopes. To tie in with our current study about procedural texts, the students followed a set of oral instructions to make their kaleidoscopes. They also learnt the science behind kaleidoscopes, as part of our inquiry unit ‘Light and Sound.’ They gained an understanding that these work by reflecting light! Their kaleidoscopes have a folded mirror inside that is placed at an angle so part of their reflection overlaps. Light then filters through the materials at the end of the tube. When the light hits the mirror, it bounces back or reflects the colours of the beads. They enjoyed looking through their kaleidoscopes at the various patterns they make.

In Numeracy they have been learning about representing practical situations that model sharing. As another part of our study about procedural texts in Literacy, the students have increased their familiarity with ordering and organising procedural texts, by following a set of instructions to make fairy bread. They all enjoyed making the fairy bread and then eating it!

Level 4

This term, our Level 4 students have been exploring the fascinating world of earthquakes and tectonic plates.

We are learning how the Earth's crust is divided into several large and small plates that float on the semi-fluid mantle beneath. Through hands-on activities and interactive lessons, students are discovering how the movement of these plates can cause earthquakes, shape landscapes, and impact our lives.
