Disability Inclusion

Dan Moloney - AP (Teaching and Learning)

The Disability Inclusion (DI) funding model will be replacing the PSD model at JSA from 2025.

This change brings about some change to some of the schoolwide processes we follow and documentation we use. Above all, it highlights the importance of our teaching and learning practice: including the range of adjustments and supports we have in place for our students.

Professional Learning Task

As teachers and ES in our school, we need to understand the fundamental principles/ intent behind DI:

  • building a culture of inclusion
  • identify students' functional needs
  • new funding model
  • improve teaching and learning

Please make the time to enrol in the 'Disability Inclusion (eLearning Module 1)' via Edupay. In this module, you will learn about what DI involves, the structure of the DI profile, tiered levels of funding and an explanation of how students quality for this funding.

Upcoming Work to plan for DI 2025

Over the coming months, the DI team are planning a staged implementation to support staff. For the remainder of 2024, we will be supporting our staff to:

  • Develop SMART IEP goals
  • Modify our Teaching & Learning Program template to account for adjustments/supports
  • Structure our SSG agenda to account for each student's functional skill development
  • Form an essential bank of evidence to submit for DI applications
  • Implement a DI Profile via XUNO to store necessary evidence
  • Undertake further PL during PLCs to further consolidate your understanding of DI

Watch this space, everyone!
