PDHPE

As we start our PDHPE Lessons in Term 2 we would like to commend students for engaging with their physical and mental well-being through various activities from Term 1. Across all year levels,  the encouragement of  students reflects the positive nature of the course and the goal setting set by them for their success.

This Term in theory lessons, Year 7 explores the unit ‘stronger together' focusing on inclusion and empathy. Students will learn about strategies to effectively create an understanding of other feelings whilst also learning the art of responding when they see others in need. In practical activities, students will be continuing on with skills and activities to showcase their ability to strike and field. Many games have been played over the course of the term with some excellent skills present among a large number of students.

Year 8 is focusing on the unit ‘Caring for myself and others’. The main theme is on mental health and links to healthy eating patterns. In the practical component of the course Year 8 is completing a Dance unit which involves them building on leadership and collaborative skills. Using a song stimulus students are to create their own dance. This unit has shaped to be a unit full of laughter, fun and teamwork, which students all seem to be enjoying so far.

Year 9 students have been considering the role of themselves living a healthy lifestyle through the unit - eat right, live  well. This unit focuses on the ability to select healthy foods and sometimes foods, whilst learning about the effectiveness of a balanced lifestyle. Practically this term Year 9 are  focused on developing  Badminton skills and are preparing for a round robin of Badminton games.

Year 10 developed an understanding of strategies to ensure adolescents continue to be physically active last term. This knowledge has progressed into the unit ‘Risky Business’ which develops skills of making informed decisions. Students will be given ongoing scenarios, groups sessions and discussion activities  to effectively be able to make decisions confidently that limit negative risk taking.

Outdoor Education

In one of our elective classes this term, Year 9 Outdoor Education students enjoyed an excursion for their unit on Orienteering. Students in this unit went to the Botanical Gardens and completed a course on Willans Hill Reserve in the Individual and team Orienteering Championships. The students had a great time, learnt some valuable navigation skills and competed in the spirit of the competition. Laura Sobolewski was triumphant in the individual section, winning by over 10 minutes. Congratulations Laura!
