Dear Parents and Carers,
The booklists for 2024 have recently been released and you may have noticed that the English text requirements look a little different from previous years. Year 7 and Year 8 students will no longer have a prescribed novel purchase. Year 9 students are required to purchase Looking for Alibrandi and Animal Farm and Year 10 students Fahrenheit 451. Across all 7 – 10 levels students will be provided with all other texts studied in the form of short stories, poetry, audiovisual, articles etc. These changes are because at senior levels the new VCAA VCE Study Designs are currently being designed and implemented across the three Englishes – English, Literature and English Language - and are moving to a focus on mentor texts and creative writing. The English team are adapting our programs to best prepare our students for VCE English and beyond by building appropriate skills and also offering a wide range of choice to our cohorts. The library will be a regularly utilised resource across all classes in 2024 as all students will continue to engage in their own private reading and these texts will also be implemented into our assessment programs.
Thank you for supporting your student’s English journey at Viewbank College.
