STAGE 1 NEWS

In the final stretch of Term 4, Stage One has been buzzing with activity.  From diving into the pool and enjoying a game of cricket to crafting both 2D and 3D shapes, our students have been immersed in a diverse range of experiences. They have showcased their creativity through impressive writing pieces. Undoubtedly, they deserve a well-earned break.

MATHEMATICS

Over the last fortnight in our Mathematics lessons, students have been working with two-dimensional (2D) shapes, three-dimensional (3D) objects, and volume. They sorted 2D shapes and 3D objects based on distinct features.

We explored the concept that the flat surfaces of 3D objects can be identified as 2D shapes.

Furthermore, students engaged in comparing 3D objects with varying appearances that share the same volume.

DATA DETECTIVES

A few weeks ago, we learned about data and completed an investigation. We learned how to gather data, keep a tally and display data in a column graph.

First, we posed the question, ‘What kind of equipment do we want in our playground?’ Next, we conducted a survey with Stage 1, 2 and 3 to find out which playground equipment/features were the most popular. We kept a tally and then presented this data in a column graph. Finally, we analysed the data from our graphs and used the information to create our own data playgrounds. We decided which equipment, and how many of each, we would include based on the data we had gathered. Check out our fabulous designs!

LITERACY

In writing students were asked to bring in an artefact or object that was significant to their culture or family. The artefact could represent something from their own culture. For example, a teapot, a piece of cultural clothing, cultural food, a cultural decoration. It could also be a photograph or picture of something, including a cultural celebration, tradition, or family event. Both the Magpie and Possum co-constructed their own success criteria and came up with a descriptive writing piece.

CRICKET

On Monday we enjoyed learning a range of cricket skills. Stage one had a turn of batting, bowling and catching.
