1/2 ART
The Year 1/2’s have been working hard on their ‘hot chocolate’ artworks! They have coloured them with oil pastels and painted over with watercolours to make a colourful resist.
In 3 /4 V we are writing stories about the day we found our wonderful glasses.
Green Team News
Last Friday, the Green Team had some members missing due to the Year 1/2 excursion to Ballam Park, so we had some volunteers from Year 5 join us to assist with the tasks needing to be done in Brendan’s Garden.
Firstly, we observed the growth of some of the seedings we had planted 4 weeks ago. We were very impressed with some of the pumpkin seedlings and also the zucchinis. Other seedlings had grown a little, such as the corn and beans, and we are hoping with time and some fertiliser, they will also thrive. Unfortunately, not all our seedlings had been successful and we discussed what could be the cause for some of the seedlings not surviving. These were all the possibilities the students came up with; ducks eating them, rabbits digging them up, too much water, snails or slugs munching on them. We decided if it was something eating them it must be happening at night, so we will probably never know.
Next, we watered the seedlings, not with plain water, but with liquid fertiliser mixed in the water. We hope that this special drink will assist our seedlings to grow strong and healthy. Our final job was to add some fresh mulch to all the garden beds. We all agreed that mulch will help to keep the moisture in the soil on hot days and also add some nutrients to the soil as it breaks down. We look forward to observing our seedlings over the next few weeks of school and hopefully, they will thrive on the attention we gave them today. Fingers crossed, we will be able to harvest in the new school year.
