From the Boarding Captains

The rest of this term has flown by in a whirlwind of last-minute assessments, exams and some fun beach trips squeezed in. But as the assessments are handed in and the final marks are released, the countdown to the holidays starts. This term has been jam-packed and we are all looking forward to having a break and heading home.

In the senior houses the Year Ten's had their second-ever taste of exams and the Year Eleven's finished theirs and headed to Camp Kennedy. This camp was full of fun activities and memories we Year Eleven's will cherish as we move into our final year of school.

I recently joined Endeavour’s line dancing.  Every Monday the Endeavour girls participate in line dancing run by Grace Franzinelli. We did some classics like the Nutbush and Cotton Eye Joe and some new ones. Grace taught me some new moves and the Endeavour girls showed me some of their favourite dances they learnt this term. I really enjoyed spending time with the girls. Sometimes the senior and junior houses feel disconnected but activities like this can help create a connection and bond between the younger and older boarders.

This term we also had the boarding orientation. I enjoyed meeting all the new boarders while playing some Cross Net. The Endeavour girls and Anchorage boys created a really welcoming atmosphere for all the new boarders. The orientation allows the new students to have a taste of boarding and a tour of the school. I hope the new boarders are excited to come back next year and start their boarding journeys.

On Thursday night we have the All-Boarding Christmas Dinner. Chef Nick and the kitchen staff out-did themselves and treated us to a Christmas feast. I would like to say a big thank you too all the volunteers who helped decorate the dining hall. The effort was worth it as it looked so wonderful and festive. I would also like to thank Mr Keatch and Mrs Franzinelli as this wouldn’t be possible without them.

I hope everyone has a happy and restful holiday and I can't wait to see you all next year.

The past term has seemed to fly by quickly has been filled with many events and traditions beloved by our fellow boarders. This includes the annual boarding photo competition that is run by Mrs Franzinelli and the Christmas dinner held in the Dining Hall.  The photo competition consisted of many amazing photos of landscapes, harvest machinery and farm animals.

The Christmas dinner was hosted on Thursday 30 November. The night started with speeches from the Heads of House. They talked about how they were grateful for each staff member. This is because without staff there would be no boarding. The food was more traditional this year consisting of ham and turkey. Overall, the night ran smoothly with everyone’s favourite part being clean-up.

Another event that occurred was the Boarding orientation sleepover. This involved the new boarders coming into boarding and spending a night there to get a feel for what it will be like next year. I enjoyed meeting all the new boarders whilst also catching up with the current Year Sevens, Eights and Nines. It involved a friendly game of backyard cricket for the boys and Cross Net or Giant Jenga for the girls. I look forward to introducing the new boarders next year.

I wish everyone a happy holiday and a safe travel home.
