Message from the Principal Team
Week 8 Term 4 2024
Dear CNPS Families,
As I write this week, I am staggered at how quickly the past 8 weeks have gone. It feels like yesterday that I stepped into CNPS as Acting Principal for my first day. I mention this, as the next 3 weeks are likely to rush past us all, so I encourage the community to enjoy the final weeks of what has been a productive and memorable 2024 academic year. Over the next 3 weeks students will begin to bring home their workbooks, art pieces and other special learning activities from the year. I encourage you to review your child/ren’s work and discuss their learning from this year. Carlton North Primary School end of year (Semester 2) reports will be available to families via Compass on Friday 13 December 2024. This will be another opportunity to review and celebrate learning successes.
International Day of People with Disability
Did you know there are more than 5.5 million people with disability in Australia? International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations Day observed on 3 December each year. The aim is to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability. By acknowledging this important day, we can all do our bit to ensure people with disability can take part in and contribute to society. We can help to remove barriers for people with disability and contribute to positive change in our classrooms and our community. This year, CNPS is recognising the day through various activities. We encourage all students, their families and carers to get involved in this day. Together, we can all take action to challenge perceptions about disability, remove barriers and promote inclusive and respectful attitudes and behaviours in our school and community.
Parent Information Session – 2025 Foundation Families
Last Wednesday 20 November 2024, CNPS hosted the families of the incoming Foundation students for 2025. There was a great turnout in the Library and a lovely atmosphere as new families started connecting with one another. Can I please thank school council president Rebecca Slater for her attendance and addressing the forum. I also wish to thank Assistant Principals Jane and Erin, Foundation teachers and the hard working office team for organising and setting up the event.
Gratitude – School Councillors 2024
On Wednesday evening 27 November 2024, it was the final school council meeting for the year. The meeting was an opportunity for all school council sub-committees to present their final minutes/reports and for school council to reflect on the successes for 2024. On behalf of the entire school community can I please thank the following members of the 2024 school council for volunteering their time, enthusiasm and energy for CNPS:
Parents/Carers
Rebecca Slater – School Council President, Michelle Barnett, Rebecca Kelly, Alison Knott, Marcus Lau, Warwick Mihaly, Briony O’Keefe, Andrew Schnaider, Henry Tinsley and Hazel Opoz,
Department of Education

Building and Grounds – Roof Repairs
I wanted to draw to the communities attention some pending roof repair works that are currently scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. The buildings and grounds committee with outgoing Principal Rachel Corben, had been working with the VSBA maintenance team to address both the karwun and marnerlong building’s roofs. CNPS is hoping that in the coming weeks that we will have a clearer picture on dates when the roof works will commence.
