Year 7 Art - Ceramic Birds

Students explore the artwork of Rebecca Pubben and designed their bird sculpture based on her designs.

Our students practised hand building skills while moulding and adding decorations to their artwork. They utilised important hand-eye coordination skills and nurtured their creative skills producing a number of imaginative, vibrant outcomes.

Year 8 Visual Communication Design

Expanding their knowledge of different drawing methods relevant to Visual Communication Design, students in Year 8 VCD recently learnt about Isometric Drawing. This three-dimensional drawing method is primarily used in documentation drawing, to bring to life two-dimensional drawings such as Third Angle Orthogonal Drawings. However, in recent times, it has been regularly used in games and type. For the task at hand, the Year 8 students were challenged to pick a three or four lettered word, then using a carefully constructed two-dimension alphabet, they were to convert the word into Isometric view and render it using markers. Year 10 Health Education

The Year 10 Health Ed class went to the Melbourne Museum on Wednesday 6 November to participate in the 'Road to Zero' program run by the TAC at Melbourne Museum. It is a great experience with many interactive activities for students to partake in and includes the students creating and editing a Safe Roads Campaign advertisement. All the students had a great time learning about the importance of reducing the Road Toll and ways they can help to do so. A big thank you to Ms Jo Marletta and Mr Brendan Newcomb who joined me and assisted in the running of the excursion.

Year 8 Surfing

We had our last two Year 8 Surfing excursions on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November.

In beautiful conditions on both days, 50 students from classes 8E, 8F and 8G had a 2-hour surfing lesson at Smith’s Beach, run by Island Surf Surfing School. Another set of first timers got to learn about Beach Safety, especially how the waves and rips work together at a Surf Beach, and that surfing is a lot of fun. We had almost all students stand up on a board for the first time and many others catch waves right into the shore. Mr Adam Cooper, Ms Hasna Parashar and I also got in the water, had a surf, and helped students on both days. Mrs Linda Smith and Ms Kate Goodwin took plenty of photos on the different days.

In Australia it is so important that everyone, but especially young people, know the risks and dangers but also where and how to have a good time at the beach.

A big thank you to the staff who attended and helped me out on the days; Mr Adam Cooper, Ms Kate Goodwin, Mrs Linda Smith and Ms Hasna Parashar. Also, a big shout out to the team at Island Surf who were awesome. Big thanks go to the College nurses, Ms Megan Loos and Ms Melanie Seufert, for ensuring all the first aid packs and medical forms were sorted, and to Ms Jackie Ousalkas and Ms Maria Kotsanis in Student Services for all their work booking the buses and making sure all permissions were done.

Next year all the Surfing excursions will happen in the same week in November, which will be an awesome week no doubt!

Year 9 City Experience

Our Year 9 students have spent four days exploring Melbourne. They were given challenges that taught them navigations skills and how to use public transport, and they have explored many landmarks and historical sites in our wonderful city.

City Experience 2024 was filled with things to do!

On day one students did an Amazing Race style activity that saw them travel to specific locations and complete tasks to move onto their next activity. At Chinatown students were required to use their phones to translate signs, at Marvel stadium students needed to put on football jumpers and recreate famous scenes in the AFL, and at St Francis students were required to use their memory. This task was organised by Mrs Linda Smith.

On day two students took photos all around the city at many locations. These locations were popular city spots like Federation Square, Skybus terminal, Flinders St Station, and Princes bridge. Students were able to see much of the city in a short amount of time, learning about transport and some of the city's rich history as they went.

Day three of City Experience had students stationed at William Angliss for the day. Students learnt about how to work well in a team as well as spot areas of improvement. Students were also spoken to about processes and expectations for senior school.

Day four students visited many landmarks including Eureka Tower, the MCG, the aquarium and ArtVo. They also filmed a video after the day to demonstrate what they have experienced in the city.

I would like to thank the school and all the teachers and staff who were apart of city experience. It is a huge effort from a team and I would like to thank them for what they have done.
