Summer and the Festival Season

"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." — Ecclesiastes 3:1

As the warm rays of summer start to shine brighter and the days grow longer, we enter a season full of excitement and joy. The arrival of summer often brings a sense of anticipation - school holidays, trips to the beach, and the start of the festival season. There are barbecues, community gatherings, Christmas celebrations, and New Year’s fireworks. It’s a time filled with laughter, family, and friends.

Summer feels like a season of abundance. The trees are lush and green, flowers are in full bloom, and the days seem almost endless. It’s a time that naturally lifts our spirits. But why does this happen? It’s because God created the seasons to reflect different aspects of His character and His blessings in our lives.

In the Bible, summer often symbolises a time of growth and harvest. It’s a period when the hard work of planting seeds pays off, and we can enjoy the fruits of our labour. Similarly, the festive season is a time when we can see the fruits of our relationships and the love we’ve shared throughout the year. It's an opportunity to gather together and be reminded of the blessings we've received.

However, summer is also a time when we need to remember the true source of our joy. Amidst all the fun and festivities, it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget about the One who made it all possible. Just as we enjoy the warmth of the sun, we are invited to bask in the warmth of God’s love. He is the light that never fades, the true source of all joy and celebration.

As we enjoy this season, let's take moments to pause and give thanks. Let’s remember that every good gift comes from God, including the sunny days, the laughter, and the gatherings we cherish. Let us also be mindful of those who may find this time of year challenging - those who feel lonely, those who are grieving, or those who are struggling. Summer is a beautiful reminder of God’s generosity, and we are called to reflect that generosity in our actions and in our love for others.
