Year 10 Game Design and Creation student Jakob Kaygo describes his day at Roy

(ROC) and Roll!

The Year 10 Game Design class recently had the exciting opportunity to visit the Roy Hill Remote Operations Centre (ROC) near Perth Airport. During the visit, students learned about Roy Hill’s mining operations in the Pilbara, a vast area known for its large-scale open-pit mining. The site operates with several automated machines, including trucks and rail, thus enabling the company to export tons of iron ore globally. The class participated in various activities that offered insight into the day-to-day operations at Roy Hill. These included a VR experience locating iron ore and using the Scratch programming platform to operate robots.  The experience sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among students potentially interested in careers in IT, mining, engineering, and logistics. Thank you to Roy Hill for their hospitality and for providing our Year 10 Game Design class with such an inspiring experience, and to Mrs. Eloff and Mr. Hulshoff for accompanying us on this memorable excursion!
