Prémontré Library
Checkmate! ♟ The Chess Club is Back in Action!
Attention, St. Norbert Staff and Students!
We are excited to announce that the St Norbert College Chess Club has officially resumed action in the library every Thursday during lunch time. Our first gathering on October 17th drew an enthusiastic group of 13 students, an impressive turnout for our relaunch! Since then, approximately 25 students attend every week, with numbers growing so much we’ve had to purchase new chess sets.
Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or a curious beginner, there’s a place for you at the chessboard. It was inspiring to see a mix of skill levels among the participants. Some students (and Mr Sligar) displayed incredible talent and strategy, while others were learning the ropes for the first time. We believe we have the talent for some serious competitions.
If you missed our first meeting, do not despair! It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Come into the library Thursday lunch times and see what the excitement is all about.
Oh, and did you know 🤔 chess players have great moves! ♟
Morris Gleitzman Visit
Renowned Australian author Morris Gleitzman visited the College on Friday, the 1 November and enthralled Year 7 students and staff with the background research and story behind his best-selling book 'Boy Overboard' which many of the students had read in their English class. Gleitzman showed a real passion for all of his novels and an immense attachment to the characters within.
