Regional Netball - recount from Ethan (year 6)

Going to Netball was such an amazing journey. When we got there, we started to talk about how excited we were and how we are going to win all of our games. We started our first game really well. All of us were working together and were scoring so many goals. The other team was very angry because they couldn’t get the ball. After that game we were pumped ready to play the rest! Our next game was more challenging for us and we would have to try really hard for us to get in front.  We scored one final goal before the siren and we won the game by 1. We were so motivated after that game.

We watched the Grade 5’s play and they were also going really well. The game we watched they won. When we started our next game, the game was actually very good. It was close and we started to get some momentum. We scored 2 in a row and the other team caught on and they came back but we won. It was a Thriller! There were no official finals for the day but we all got to play a champion match against someone else in another pool.  This ended up being our hardest game, it was very stressful. We were down at half time and managed to finish with a draw, 5-5.  We still got the premiership flag as we ended on the top of our Pool. The year 5s ended up equal second in their pool, but just missed out on the flag due to percentage.

Going to Netball was such an amazing opportunity, I enjoyed the time with all of my friends and it was very fun to play.

Thanks to Bec for coaching the year 5 team and for Josh Crowe for assisting with the driving!

Regional Cricket - recount from Lucy C (year 6)

Girls Cricket Day

Cricket Day was a great day to be a part of. Because of the joy of seeing other girls supporting each other to get better. Paul Cleary was our coach and he showed up at every stage that we got through. A lot of the girls did not know how to play cricket but in the end we got through to Regionals and we had a blast. We all still can’t believe we got through to where we got to. A few games we were all biting our fingernails to see if we won. I think we all had our moments of missing the ball of the cone and laughing so hard. Encouraging the girls to do their best and go. The last stage we went to had some strange weather. It was raining, sunny and windy all at the same time.  We won all of our games and so did the team we played in the finals. We unfortunately lost the grand final but you can’t win everything. I think cricket was a chance for all of us to try something new and have some fun. We may never play cricket again in our lives Thank you girls and especially Paul. - Lucy C

Thank you to Paul Cleary for coaching the girls from District to Regionals, we really appreciate the time you took out to do this.  Thank you to James Sweatman, Bec Zani and Josh Crowe that accompanied the teams at various teams also.

Twilight Sports (House Sports) - 31st October 2024

Here are the highlights of the evening from some of the year 6ers

It was a fun night and I enjoyed helping out the younger kids. Every team gave a good challenge but in the end Coghlan Won. [ Flynn ]

Lots of fun activities to join and participate in. My role was helping the preps which was really enjoyable to help keep them focused and occupied. I could definitely tell that they enjoyed seeing Year 6s in the bubble suits! (Harriet)

Twilight Sports was such a great experience, being able to volunteer, participate and be a role model for the younger students. I especially loved dancing to ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson! We will never forget this amazing day! (Natalia)

I think it’s such a great experience to bring the St James community together. With sport nothing is impossible! I hope the twilight sport spirit is always the same. (Jia)

It’s a lot of fun, meroriable it's a lot of different athletic sports. The year 6 races are the best. (LEXIE)

It was a really great experience and it was really fun watching all the races and events. (Nell)

Helping all of the little kids do the long jump and getting into big boy suits (Patrick)

I loved seeing people try their best when jumping into the pit. When they all landed and heard their score they had a smile on their faces. I loved the Thriller dance that we all worked hard on! ( Olivia)

Twilight sports were heaps of fun, with helping the younger students and competing in our own races. Great day. (Henners)

My Favourite bit about twilight sports was seeing all of the preps getting along with one another and experiencing their first Twilight sports  which is such a memorable moment at primary school (Lucy BD)

It was really good and it was a great performance by Durkin. (Alby)

I liked how everyone in their colour teams cheered for their team in the circular relay.

( Jayden)

Swimming Trials

2025 Sport planning is already well and truly underway.  Our time trials for the District Swimming team have already been booked and will run at AQUANATION Ringwood, on Wednesday 12th February from 7.30am until 830am.  If your child would like to attend the trials, please specify here.  Having this information before the day, makes this short session run smoothly.

These are for year 3 to 6 students.  Students MUST be turning 9 by December 31 in 2025 to qualify for trials. The races will be timed and the teams will be selected based on these times.  The student MUST be able to swim the entire distance on their own safely and comfortably.

Spotlight on Past Students

I often hear from siblings within the school and past students about the achievements they are making on the sporting field since leaving SJV.  I think we as a community would love to hear these stories and achievements so if you have something you would like to share with us, I would love to pop it in the fortnightly newsletter.  Please send through to catherine.wall@sjvermont.catholic.edu.au

Have a fabulous week everyone.

Stay safe, keep active
