Year 1/2

On Thursday last week, students had the opportunity to go to Scienceworks to explore ‘Toys and their forces’. This was chosen as a link to our Simple Machines unit. First, we had an interactive presentation, exploring how forces like push, pull and gravity can make toys move or change shape. Students were asked to participate and explain what force is in motion and how it is used to make the toy move. Students then ventured into the Air Playground, where they were able to make their own way around the various attractions, to experiment with the amazing invisible elemental force of air. We enjoyed floating objects in mid-air, placing material in fast moving air-jets, launching balls sky-high with compressed air, crafting paper planes to soar and squishing a giant inflatable tentacled sculpture on an inflatable jumping castle.

In true Lancefield Primary School form, student’s behaviour was amazing. They showed respect to the presenters and listened well to the teacher's instructions. There were lots of positive conversations on the bus about all the fun they had.

Some of the student’s highlights of 2024 have been:

  • “I really liked going to Scienceworks and writing poems” - Charlotte R
