Principal's Report

Thank you one and all for a great 2024 at LPS! We have all achieved so much and to recall every single event and learning opportunity would take some time.  I would like to thank all of our families, parents and students for your support, care and positive attitudes throughout the year. It is a pleasure and privilege to work with and support all of you.

To our talented and hard-working staff; teachers, education support staff and office staff; thank you really is never enough.

Your thoughtful planning and hard work that takes place every day and behind the scenes; your commitment to providing top quality education, care and experiences for our students and your willingness to continually improve practice, take on board feedback and support your colleagues. Most importantly your commitment to implementing our wellbeing approaches and provide daily support to our students and families in a myriad of often quiet, unseen and unthanked ways is greatly appreciated, noticed and acknowledged.

Working in education continues to be more complex, demanding and challenging yet is THE most rewarding job! I believe our team at LPS meet those challenges with professionalism, great team spirit, determination, grace and good humour.

Lastly I would like to wish all of our community a very happy holiday period. If you are travelling stay well and safe and enjoy your time over the summer to rest, relax and recharge!

Staffing farewell and thank you

We are sad to be farewelling Bridget Henkel our Visual Arts teacher who will be working much closer to home in 2025. We have loved having Bridget as part of our team, she has provided our students with so much inspiration and has recognised and encouraged many young artists at LPS. A highlight for the year was our first ever Art Show and Bridget worked hard with students for this to be imagined and achieved.

School Council

Thank you to our school council members for 2024. I greatly appreciate the support you have  provided our school throughout the year. I would particularly like to recognise and thank Sally Soper, our School Council president for the past four years. Sally has proudly represented our school and was a member in 2024 on our school review panel. She has been a champion for student wellbeing and mental health and has been a positive and encouraging presence at LPS for many years. I will personally miss Sally's support, friendship and wise words of advice.

We will be seeking new school council members in 2025, information about this opportunity will be provided early next year.

Student Transition

All students will participate in a step up to 2025 transition session on Tuesday 10th of December where they will meet their 2025 class teacher and class mates.

Requests for teachers and classes cannot be accommodated. Much time and thought goes into the process  of preparing classes ( 2025 - years 2/3 and 4/5) and student input has been considered.

Congratulations Year 6 Graduands

Congratulations and thank you to our 2024 year 6 students. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch this great group of students grow and develop skills which will support them through the challenging time of transitioning into life at secondary school. Our Year 6s have developed wonderful leadership and public speaking skills, taken charge at assemblies, conducted school tours and represented our school with pride at a range of whole school and community events. We have all so enjoyed working with  you this year.

.We are greatly looking forward to recognising the efforts of all year 6 students at our upcoming graduation evening on Friday 13th of December at the Lancefield Mechanics Hall. We are also looking forward to our Year 6 2025 team step up and take on new challenges in the new school year. They have already shown there great skills at being wonderful new buddies to our brand new prep students.

Where are all the Christmas Beetles? - Some news from Landcare

Christmas beetles are an iconic feature of the Australian summer and many Australians find these big beautiful beetles in large numbers. In the last ten years or so there have been many anecdotal accounts of people seeing fewer Christmas beetles and media articles asking,  We want to know the answer to this question too! Click on the links for more information about Invertebrates Australia and the Christmas Beetle Count. There are some great YouTube videos that have good information about what to look for! You can check out some beetles to look for below:
