Year 10 Students Tour GOTAFE & New La Trobe Facilities

Recently, three groups of Year 10 students from the subject "So You Think You Want a Job" had the exciting opportunity to tour both the GOTAFE campus and the new Latrobe Shepparton campus facilities. These students were among the first groups to explore the state-of-the-art resources and study areas at the new Latrobe facility, offering them a unique insight into their future study possibilities.

At GOTAFE, the tour proved especially valuable for students planning to pursue a VET (Vocational Education and Training) subject in their senior years. The visit allowed students to explore the learning environments they will experience next year, while also meeting trainers and gaining a better understanding of their studies.

The Latrobe campus tour provided a broader view of post-secondary pathways. Students learned about opportunities beyond VCE, including study options for those looking to return to education later in life. One of the highlights was the innovative use of technology, especially in health-related study areas, which captivated students considering these career paths.

As close partners of GSSC, both La Trobe and GOTAFE will continue to be an integral part of the school community. They will be available at GSSC every fortnight on Thursday lunchtimes in 2025, further enhancing students’ access to educational and career pathways. We would like to extend our thanks to La Trobe and GOTAFE for their ongoing support of our students and the school community.

Year 9 My Career Insights - Morrisby Program

This program has concluded for this year. The program involved the following:

In My Career Insights students:

• Learnt about what skills and abilities they could bring to a career.

• Found out about what jobs match their abilities, interests and personality, and the subjects they need for those jobs.

As part of the My Career Insights program, students:

• Completed a series of online questions and quizzes on the Morrisby website at school.

This was then be followed up by:

• A Morrisby Profile Report showing the results from the questions and quizzes, which summarised individual strengths and interests and suggested related career paths and study options.

• A 30-minute meeting with a Morrisby-trained professional Career Practitioner, who explained the report to the student.

220 of our Year 9s completed the full program this year - which included an interview with a qualified Morrisby Career Practitioner.  Students and parents can access their results at anytime by logging into the www.morrisby.com website.

Follow up with student results will be undertaken in Year 10 and also when meeting with their Neighbourhood Careers Practitioner in the next few years.
