Year 9 Ceroc Dance
by Mac Hillsdon
Last Wednesday Year 9 had the opportunity to go to Oxford Falls and take part in the Ceroc Dance workshop with students from Brigidine College. This was a great way for students to socialise in a fun way with the young women from Brigidine. The simple parts of the dance were taught, and then students partnered up to start practicing. While it was slightly awkward at first, after introductions and having switched partners a few times everyone was having a great time. Students appreciated being in the cool gym on the very hot day and had lots of time for breaks which included opportunity to meet new people. At the end of the day there was a competition for the best two dancers, with the rest of the year cheering them on. This gave a great end to a wonderful day which helped many of the young St Pius X men to build new friendships and respect.
Year 7 and 8 Backflips Against Bullying
By Jono Battishall and Oli Sly
Last Friday Year 7 and 8 attended Backflips Against Bullying. The performance was about methods to reduce bullying, and they also showed us some cools tricks to keep us engaged. There was audience participation which helped us wrap our heads around the concepts of how to stand up towards bullies. They showed us methods such as silent treatment, thanking the bully and changing the conversation. They also showed us how to act and not react when a bully is continuously pestering you. They made the play engaging by showing us tricks like backflips and other cool stunts. They gave us 5 minutes of reflection time on the past year of our bullying encounters and how we can change our attitudes moving into the future. We speak for the rest of the grade ensuring we had an educational and fun assembly with the people and volunteers, and we thank them for an fun and informative morning.
Share the Dignity - Hornsby Women's Shelter
In Year 7 PDHPE theory lessons earlier in the year one of the topics within the Changes in Me unit explored the menstrual cycle. Off the back of the curious and respectful discussions Year 7 were informed of the Share the Dignity charity, who provide period products for women who, for various reasons, simply cannot access essential products. Following further information at year assemblies Year 7 decided they could do a small part in donating items which in turn were gratefully received by Angelica from the Hornsby Women’s Shelter this week. I thank Mr Lacey (PDHPE Leader of Learning) and the Year 7 PDHPE teachers for their support of this initiative, along with all families and their sons for their generosity in donating numerous items.
