Year 2 News
From Emma, Year 2
Over the past fortnight, we have been diving into a range of exciting activities and learning opportunities in Year Two.
Swimming
We started off Week 8 with a very rainy first swimming lesson, but the weather didn’t dampen our spirits. Over the week, students will learn about water safety skills, building confidence and having lots of fun in the pool. A reminder to make sure that all items are labelled with your child’s name so they can be returned if lost at the pool.
Maths: Measurement
In Maths this last fortnight, students have been exploring measurement. We have been learning to compare lengths, measure objects using informal units (unifix blocks) and formal units (rulers) and estimate mass with increasing accuracy. A highlight was calculating the perimeter of classroom objects, estimating and then measuring the height of our classmates using the materials around the room.
Literacy: Bug Investigations and Unusual Jobs
In Literacy, we have been learning all about bugs! Students have been reading, synthesising and summarising information about insects as well as sharing their knowledge with one another. Students had the opportunity to share their knowledge with one another in some lively classroom discussions. This week, we’re shifting our focus to some of the weird and unusual jobs people do. From Arctic Architects to Secret Hideaway Designers, we’ll explore the creativity and innovation in different professions. Already we’ve had fun brainstorming some weird and wonderful jobs that we might like to do in the future.
