From Sarah Nightingale, Principal
It’s been another busy couple of weeks at NMPS, with a number of different events happening across the school.
Our 2025 Prep Transition sessions are in full swing with around 110 students attending last Friday. All students have been really settled, learning the early school routines, and getting use to the learning environment.
Upcoming Dates
Our next Prep Transition session is on Friday 6th December, followed by an additional session on Tuesday 10th December. We look forward to welcoming all 2025 Prep students back to NMPS on these dates.
Our Parents & Friends Association will be holding a ‘Welcome Morning Tea’ for new Prep families on Friday 6th December, while the students are in their third transition session. Please refer to email updates for more information on this morning tea.
Last week our Year 3 students braved the heat at Forest Edge for their camp experience. From all reports, the students had an amazing time – participating in lots of different adventure activities, including the flying fox, archery, disc golf and a scavenger hunt. We thank the year 3 teachers, NMPS staff and parents who volunteered their time to join the students.
Our 2025 Swimming program started this week with our Prep to Year 3 students heading off to North Melbourne Pool for the week, despite the weather. Our Year 4 to Year 6 students will begin their swimming lessons on Monday 2nd December.

We know that parents/carers and students are always keen to see the teaching arrangements for the new school year, and we look forward to sharing this with you in Week 10.
Students will have an opportunity to find out their 2025 teacher and class on our Whole School Transition Day on Tuesday 10th December.
Our 2025 Prep to Year 2 students will be transitioning at our Molesworth Street Campus and our 2025 Year 3 to Year 6 students will be transitioning at our Errol Street Campus
This means our current 2024 Year 2 students will begin and end the day at our Errol Street Campus beginning at 8:45am and finishing at 3:15pm.
More information regarding details of our Transition Day will be shared via Compass.
The placement of students each year is a task that our staff takes very seriously, with the learning and wellbeing of each individual student considered. Classes have been formed by teachers, our wellbeing team and school leaders. Due to the many variables and delicate balance of each class, we consider the 2025 class placements as final.
We have a high level of confidence in our leadership and teaching teams to make decisions based on the best outcomes for all of our students and trust our students will settle well into their new classes in 2025. Ahead of our Whole School Transition Day, we ask families to support the informed decisions of our staff and ensure all conversations with their children regarding their 2025 class placement are positive and encouraging.
NMPS currently has 889 confirmed student enrolments for 2025 across both campuses.
Our class structure is as follows:
6 x Prep classes
6 x Year 1 classes
5 x Year 2 classes
5 x Year 3 classes
5 x Year 4 classes
5 x Year 5 classes
6 x Year 6 classes
