Pizza Day

This week during the senior school Kitchen Garden Academy the students made their own pizza's from scratch.  They made the pizza dough, recipe below, they chopped capsicum and chicken and grated cheese.  We picked some fresh herbs to add to the pizza sauce.   They said they tasted great!

Pizza Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

1 1/4 Cups of warm water

3 Tablespoons Sugar

1 Tablespoon dried yeast granules

1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil

1 teaspoon salt

3 Cups of Plain Flour (or Wholemeal Flour)

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions:

  1. Measure out warm water into a bowl or jug.  Add the sugar, stir to dissolve.
  2. Add Yeast granules and oil and stir gentle for a few seconds.
  3. Leave to stand for at least five minutes to allow the yeast to begin acting.  It should start to foam up.
  4. In a large bowl add the Flour, Salt and Baking Powder and stir.  Make a hole in the centre of the bowl by pushing out the ingredients to the edge.
  5. Pour wet ingredients into the dry and mix.
  6. The dough begins to come away form the sides of the bowl and form one large ball.
  7. Tip dough onto floured bench and knead gently until it feels less sticky and more like a soft dough.
  8. You can cut the dough into 3 equal parts to make 3 medium pizzas.  If you have time you can leave the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a tea towel for 5 to 15 mins (this isn't necessary but you can do this while you get all the pizza toppings ready).
  9. Roll out the dough, add your favourite pizza sauce and toppings.
  10. Heat oven to 200 C, cook pizza for 8 to 10 mins until the dough is cooked to your liking.
