Year 3-6 ~ Science

In Science this term, the 3-6 class have been investigating chemical sciences, specifically looking at the different properties and behaviours of the three states of matter – solids, liquids and gases. They have performed a number of different science experiments, practising different scientific skills including, classifying, predicting, observing, inferring, planning, measuring and evaluating.

At the Week 3 assembly, students performed one of their favourite experiments called 'Gas Bag'. For this experiment, students used a ziplock bag and put vinegar and baking soda in it. The property demonstrated by this activity is that gases take the shape of their container. When the baking soda is added to the vinegar and the bag is closed, a chemical reaction takes place and a gas, called carbon dioxide, is produced, which inflates the bag.

The 3-6 class have really enjoyed learning about matter.

Year K-2 ~ Mathematics

Students recently completed their combining and separating quantities unit in maths. The Early Stage 1 students used playdough to "smash" away numbers to visualise subtraction while Stage 1 students used Numicon to explore the different ways numbers can be partitioned and combined.
