Science

Welcome to Science Term Two. This term students will be exploring Earth and Space Science – this is a broad and fascinating area of Science and I am excited!  It was great to see how excited the students were too when we commenced this topic last week – so many interesting facts were shared and a lot of pre-existing knowledge of this topic was evident among the students.  It was so wonderful to witness their engagement in the class activities, particularly our class earth and space quiz to ascertain and discuss our existing understandings, and also our class mind map where we brainstormed the many sub topics that fall under the umbrella of Earth and Space Science.  Each session this term, across all grade levels, we will investigate and explore these many sub topics through a range of activities including Earth’s features, changes to Earth over time due to natural changes and disasters as well as human impact, Earth’s resources, Earth’s rotation causing day and night, Earth’s revolution around the sun causing our seasons as well as our exploring our solar system.

This week we continued to explore our existing knowledge of this topic as well as our wonderings.  As the term unfolds and by the end of the unit, students will have the opportunity to reflect upon their learning and growing knowledge and understandings, research further concepts of interest and then record these.

Earth Day – Tuesday 22nd April 2025: Earth Day was just last week!  It began over 50 years ago out of concern for the impact of pollution on our planet. It is a reminder to ensure that we are playing a role in helping to protect and preserve our home.  Students are in the process of creating a beautiful display to acknowledge Earth Day and to serve as a reminder to our school community of all the wonderful actions we can take/continue to take in order to nurture our planet. Look out for this soon!
