Year 7 Students Race to Learn Japanese! 🚀

Learning a new language can be challenging, but Year 7 students recently turned their Japanese vocabulary practice into a high-energy game with "Running Dictation!" This exciting classroom activity got students moving, thinking, and working together while reinforcing their hiragana (Japanese alphabet) skills.

In groups of three, each team had one "runner" and two "scribes." Around the room, ten Japanese words were displayed, each matching a number on their worksheet. The runner’s job was to memorise a word (either character by character or the full word) and then rush back to tell their teammates, who carefully wrote it down in hiragana. While the scribes worked, the runner dashed off to find the next word.

To help with tricky characters, students could check their kokugo books (character practice book), making the game both fun and educational. Everyone was laughing and enthusiastic as runners raced back and forth, trying to recall words accurately, while scribes concentrated on getting every stroke right.

By the end of the lesson, students had not only reinforced their vocabulary but also developed teamwork and memory skills in an engaging way. With all the energy and excitement, Running Dictation proved to be a fantastic way to make language learning active and enjoyable!
