Harmony Day

Colourful clothing was on display last week for the first Cultural Celebration in the library. An initiative from one of our school captains – Mandy Yako, a small but enthusiastic group of students and staff participated in the lunchtime activity.  Students and staff were able to dress in clothing that represented their culture, then they shared the music and information about their culture with the very receptive audience.

We hope this will become an annual event, showcasing and celebrating proudly at Marist-Sion College. The photo below includes the participants on the day, dressed in clothing representing Australia, Nigeria, China, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Iraq and even a princess!

More excellent displays in the library

Erin Gaze has continued with her colourful and creative displays in the library this month. This month has involved displays for Project Compassion, the Athletics day, and even the Loreto noticeboard.

Library initiatives

In Term 2, students will have the opportunity to participate in the Premiers Reading Challenge. Students can register their interest and then take up the challenge to read a minimum of 15 books before September. Students who complete the challenge successfully will receive a certificate signed by the Premier and get the opportunity to participate in a morning tea celebration. Students should see the friendly library staff for more information about registration.

Technology Free Thursdays

Thursdays have been a highlight of this term with a large number of students choosing to put down their technology and converse with peers through games, activities and mindfulness projects. Olly and Finn enjoyed building a ‘LEGO Polaroid camera’, while some of the Uno games with our senior students have become very serious.

Japan Clubs

Japan Club has started again with the return of Ariene from her Japanese study tour. The Japanese team will be running activities in HUM 4 every Monday lunchtime. A new group will begin on Tuesdays in HUM 4 for students wanting to improve their Japanese Conversation skills. Everyone is welcome to both clubs!

As we begin the month of April, we would like to remind parents and students that the library is open from 8.00am every Morning and closes at 4.30pm (Mon – Thurs), 4.00pm on Fridays. There are always Learning Support Officers available to assist with homework after school and it is an inclusive and welcoming space. It would be great if students came into the library to get some holiday reading material. Have a safe and relaxing break!
