Athletics Carnival

We are all eagerly anticipating our athletics carnival on Wednesday. The excitement has been building as students prepare to showcase their athletic skills, and cheer on their house team. Last week, our sport leaders showed incredible enthusiasm while leading the practice of our chants, getting everyone pumped up and ready for the big day. Their energy was contagious, and it’s clear that students are united in the spirit of friendly competition. They can’t wait to race, jump, and cheer with passion.

I thank Colm who has worked this term in place of Andrea in PE and has helped students to prepare for the events they will participate in. He has had excellent support from Kiao, who generously shared his expertise of athletics over the last two weeks.

Vicky needs commendation for the tremendous amount of work she has undertaken in the past weeks to organise everything for Wednesday’s events. It’s a huge task to sort through somebody else’s notes and plans, and then create an organised structure for a day. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful event filled with fun and school spirit. We look forward to seeing you there.

Some helpful reminders…

  • Prep-2 children will sit in class groups, not house teams. They will return to school at approximately 12:15pm.
  • Students who finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd will receive a ribbon. Students are responsible for the care of their ribbons and lost ribbons will not be replaced.
  • Students will travel to and from the carnival by bus with their class.
  • They should wear their sports uniform, including items in their house colours i.e. red ribbons.
  • Sunscreen should be applied at home and will also be available for students throughout the day.
  • Your child should bring their lunch, snack and refillable water bottle in a bag labelled with their name. There will be plenty of time for students to eat in between events.
  • Only staff and parent officials wearing hi-vis vests are allowed in the marshalling area and at the start and finish lines.
  • Please do not take your child away from their class/house group.
  • If you wish your child to leave the carnival with you rather than return on the bus you must sign them out with your child’s teacher.
  • Parents must follow the Parent, Guardian, Carer Code of Conduct
  • Parents are welcome to photograph their own children at the Athletics Carnival but in line with our Child Safety Policy you may not take photos of other children without their parent’s permission
  • All adults are requested to use the toilets in the pavilion and leave the toilet blocks available for Holy Rosary students to use.
  • Parents are running a canteen on the day. There will be sausages ($3), juice boxes($2) and snacks ($1+)available.
  • We have created a social story which you may like to share with your child prior to Wednesday.

Student Illness

The change in weather has brought with it various bugs. Prevalent at the moment, is a stomach bug resulting in vomiting and diarrhea.  If your child is experiencing these symptoms, please keep them at home as they are highly contagious.  In the past week, we have sent many children home.  The health advice is to keep children away from school for 24 hours after the last vomiting episode and we would appreciate parents adhering to this advice.

Important Dates for Year 6 Families

Big Day Out Wednesday 10 December

Graduation liturgy: Thursday 11 December 5:30pm

STEM Staff change

After a wonderful start to the new year in STEM, unfortunately Sheridan is unable to continue in her role. This impacts P-2 students. I have advertised but STEM positions are notoriously difficult to fill so we will require CRTs to fill this position in the meantime. I will keep you posted. On a brighter note, we are delighted to have employed Ava Jeffery and Rose Andrewartha in Year 3/4 from May until the end of the year to cover our leave positions when Megan and Vicky go on family leave. We will formally introduce these teachers a little closer to their start dates in May.

Raising Kids in a Digital World

All Prep-Yr 6 students engage in the Inform and Empower Cyber Safety and Wellbeing program at Holy Rosary. This is our 3rd year of student participation. Again this year, we are offering an additional online webinar to support parents and carers in managing devices at home and issues children may face including cyberbullying, social media and other online trends and impacts. This webinar is facilitated by Martin McGauran, the Inform and Empower educator and Carley McGauran, a psychologist. The session runs for 90 minutes on Thursday 15 May. It is also available to watch after the live session but you must be registered to attend. Please see the flyer below for registration details.

Lost Property

Please take the time to check the rack if you are missing drink bottles or windcheaters. Named items have been returned to students via their class tubs.  Moral of the story: Name every item!
