Newsletter term 1 sports wrap
It’s been a busy term 1 for PE! We started with 30 gr 4-6 students participating in Northcote District swimming at Northcote pool. From there we had 23 students make it into the Division Championships in Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly as well as several 4x50 freestyle relay teams and a medley relay team. It was great to see our students give their all in such a big competition. Congratulations to everyone who participated and well done to the 6 students who represented Wales Street in the Northern Regional Swimming.
We also had our Wales Street Athletics Day on 21st March, with all students from grades 4-6 making their way to the Coburg Athletics track. Well done to all students for supporting their House team and having fun participating in a range of track and field events. Those students who performed well on the day will be invited to participate in the Northcote District Athletics, Tues 26th August.
A massive thank you goes out to all the staff and family members who helped run different events throughout the day. It takes lots of people giving a little time and effort to make these events successful for all our students.
The final Athletics day results were:1st place: Clyde
2nd place: Wales
3rd place: Speight
4th place: St David
The final event for term 1 was the gr 6 District Gala day, Friday 28th March, at McDonnell res and Narrandjeri Stadium. All our gr 6 students spent time each week throughout the term training for Cricket, Basketball, Softball and Rounders. It was lovely to see all our gr 6’s enjoying the day and demonstrating their skills in a competitive setting. Thank you to the staff and family members who helped out on the day with scoring, coaching and supervision of each team.
Congratulations to our mixed basketball and 1st cricket teams who have both made it through to the Darebin Division competition later in the year.
Next term we look forward to the Wales Street and District Cross Country events, more information will be sent out about these soon.
