Learning Specialists

Dear Parents and Carers,
I am excited to share some updates about our approach to teaching reading this year! As part of our commitment to evidence-based literacy instruction, we have introduced a systematic synthetic phonics program called InitiaLit in our Foundation to Grade 2 classrooms. This approach focuses on:
Explicit teaching of letter-sound relationships
Developing strong decoding skills
Using high-quality decodable texts to support reading progress.
To give students the best opportunity to develop these essential skills, we have discontinued our school-wide use of Reading Eggs. This decision allows us to maximize classroom time for targeted phonics instruction and meaningful reading experiences with decodable books.
We understand that some families have found Reading Eggs to be a useful and engaging resource. If your child enjoys using it, you are more than welcome to subscribe independently to provide additional reading opportunities at home.
We appreciate your support as we continue to strengthen our literacy program.
Mr. Ryan Bartok
