Year 6 and Year 12 Positive Gender Relations Student Forum

Last Thursday our School Captains, Ned and Brooke attended the Year 6 and Year 12 Positive Gender Relations Student Forum.

The focus of the forum was centered around a positive approach for all students to be active bystanders and how to seek help that demonstrate respect and recognition of the rights of others. This was taken from the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships ‘age- appropriate’ curriculum for Year 5 and 6 students.

Facilitators provided a safe and proactive session where Year 12 student leaders led a discussion for small groups of Year 6 student leaders. The students created a poster to take back to their school to promote proactive peer support and help seeking strategies that can be used in response to instances of gender-based violence.

Brooke and Ned were able to build upon their leadership skills, step outside of their comfort zone and network with other students from various schools.

It was a fantastic opportunity to coach students how to be active bystanders using relatable scenarios within the school environment and in the community. Both students shared their thoughts and opinions within small groups and also across the entire forum which showed great growth personally.
