Year 5 & 6
Around our level
What an incredible first term we’ve had! From exciting sports events to new learning experiences, our Year 5/6 students have been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm.
We welcomed the Year 5 students into the BER at the beginning of the year and it was wonderful to see how quickly they embraced the flexible learning space. The middle of our BER building is the perfect space for hosting Year 5 and 6 student meetings, providing plenty of room for collaboration, discussion, and shared learning.
The Year 6 Captain’s Day, run by Mrs Haysom, set a firm foundation on which the captains could build their leadership skills and they all had a fantastic day.
Our Year 5 students were absolutely thrilled to meet their Prep buddies and it was terrific to see their smiling faces as they began forming special friendships. It was also great to see the Year 5 students take on their ‘big buddy’ roles with such enthusiasm and kindness.
For our whole-school House Cross Country, it was wonderful to see our students giving their best effort, cheering on their peers, and embracing the challenge with determination. The House Captains did an amazing job at supporting the junior students run around the lake.
This term we also welcomed visits from local secondary schools, helping our senior students gain valuable insights into secondary school education.
Another highlight for the term was having 5/6 Lounge in the BER, a fantastic space where students can relax, and enjoy some time indoors during Friday lunch time.
Enjoy reading some of the highlights of this term written by our students.
5/6A
My highlight of Term 1 this year has been the learning. It has been marvellously designed as a fun, creative way to learn a different variety of things that can be pretty hard to understand. I am sure that most people enjoyed and learnt something this term.
- Eva A
My highlight has been Gala Day because I'm so proud of my volleyball team. We tried so hard but we didn't make it through to the next round but that’s okay, we had fun.
- Ella B
My highlight of the term is definitely Gala Day because I played basketball and it was so much fun. We only lost one game and we won the grand final by one point. It was so stressful as the other team was in front and then we won. I had an amazing day.
- Jade L
This term has been amazing because we have done lots of fun things like Gala day, cross country and LOTS more. For the year 5s it's been a big change moving into the B.E.R and getting to know new people and classmates. It's been a great term and I would love every term to be the same way. Another prime highlight was our buddies. I share my buddy with another person and it's great.
- Will L
My highlights: being a big buddy and seeing him play with lots of new friends and the sports gala day. I'm getting better at all of my subjects in school and I enjoy playing in the gaga pit.
- Hunter L
5/6B
My highlight was how successful the house colour day was. I had a big part in it because I am a house captain. We had to write speeches about why our house was the best. At the end we did our chant. I had so much fun that day. I hope we can do it again.
- Cooper H
I got more than fifty runs at Gala Day and two wickets in two matches. I had so much fun.
- Lachie I
My favorite thing about this term has been joining netball and doing all the 5/6 sports. I love having Mr Hanley as my new teacher and having a buddy.
- Shakira I
I loved meeting my new teacher and class! So far I have loved my class and I have had a lot of fun this term!
- Kaylea R
My highlight: getting better at gaga ball.
- Sam S
5/6C
I have remembered all of the strategies in maths, writing and reading. In maths we have been learning about the lattice method. It's an easier and fun way to do 2 digit multiplication. In reading we have learned something called scanning, which helps you find information quickly.
- Ollie O
Playing hotshots is my highlight because l have never played it before and l did really well for my first time. I am really proud of myself. I also really enjoyed it and learned more about the sport.
- Chloe Ph
My highlight is the Gala Day. I’m happy that everyone scored a goal, including me. I'm also really happy that we played in THE GRAND FINAL.
- Thomas W
My highlight was interschool sport. I played cricket and I liked it. My achievement this term is I’m not rushing my work as much.
- Xavier R
I have been having a lot of fun with you, Mrs. Haysom and I think I’m settling in very nicely in this class. I also like all the different games you have up your sleeve for us to play. And the games we get to play together like the one where you have to put letters that are called out into a 4 x 4 grid and then you add up the number of words you have made.
- Lexi W
