OES Kayaking Excursion

OES Kayaking
On Thursday in Week 9 Term 1 for our second area of study, Unit 1&2 OES classes went sea kayaking at Sandringham. When we arrived, we got a short briefing, then headed to the beach. Prior to getting out into the water we practiced using the paddles and were taught different signals that helped manage our communication when kayaking. We learnt about aspects of the waters including ‘lee’ and ‘fetch’, as well as figuring out how to work with your kayaking partner to do 360 degree turns in the water, all of which ensures the group stayed together. Both racing to buoys and exploring the Port Phillip Bay were great experiences. Apart from the sore arms and legs after the expedition, everyone had a really fun time!
Thanks to the teachers who went to a lot of effort to organsise this experience.
