From the Principal

Welcome to Term 2!

I hope our students used the break to re-energise ready for a big Term of events. I also hope that they took time to reflect on achievements from Term 1 and the feedback provided through Parent Teacher Student Conversations and class feedback. A big thanks to the staff for the conversations that were organised with families.

This weekend our Music students are heading off on their second Camp, attending the Generations in Jazz Competition interstate that they have been rehearsing for. We wish them all the best.

Yesterday we had our Whole School Assembly, which made for a successful event outdoors in North Park. It was great that our school could once again come together as a whole community of learners and set the tone for our year. Our Captains set the theme for the Assembly as Belonging and created an environment of connectedness through the welcoming of the student leadership team and our guest speaker. Please look out for the article from the captains in our next newsletter.

I would like to highlight 2 dates this Term where some classes will be cancelled for all students (7-12) for Curriculum events. The first date is a half day in Week 7, Wednesday 4 June, when we hold our Course Expo for all Year 8 to 11 students to assist in preparing for selecting subjects for 2026. Classes will run for all students in Periods 1-3 this day so students can partake in the Course Expo in the afternoon. Year 7 students will be able to go home after period 3. The second date in Week 9, Tuesday 17 June, is the third of our Curriculum Days for the year; the Assessment Feedback and Reporting Day when staff are given time to concentrate on these areas of their work. This also coincides with the GAT (VCE General Achievement Test) which means that students undertaking VCE Unit 3/4 level subjects will complete this assessment and all other students will have their classes cancelled for the whole day.

At the recent meeting of our School Council, we welcomed a number of new parents to the Council, and I thank them for their commitment our school. You will find details of our School Council, meetings and information on the school website: School Council - Northcote High School

At the assembly, we highlighted the upcoming Centenary and the celebrations that we will be undertaking next year. If you would like to be part of organising for some of the centenary events or learning more about the history of the school, please contact us on our info@nhs.vic.edu.au address to receive an invite to our first planning meeting.

Thank you to our families that came to the Friends of Northcote Movie Night at the end of last Term. Our Friends of Northcote planning committee have begun planning for our TalkFest event running later this Term. You can find out more about it in this newsletter. I hope to see you at one of the events this year or even maybe met you at our Open Day this week.
