12-13 Relay Team
At the end of Term 1, our Yr 11/12 Girls and Yr 10/11 boys represented NHS Volleyball in Frankston at the first 1-day tournament of the year.
Our boys competed in Division 1 and looked very strong from the start of the day. They comfortably beat their first opponent in straight sets, while also learning each other’s play styles. As the day went on, the teamwork continued to excel, resulting in more wins. Our team won all their matches and received the gold medal for this tournament.
Our girls team also started strong, with a dominant win in their first game. The next few games were far more challenging, with the girls dropping a few sets, but doing enough to secure a win in each game. In what was a very close challenge, the girls were able to finish in first place, bringing home another gold medal!
Well done to everyone who represented NHS Volleyball on the day. It is a fantastic way to start the year and will hopefully set us up for more success in the future!
We had a fantastic day at the Regional Swimming Competition at Watermarc on March 27. With a team of 35 students who had qualified to compete at this level. It was a busy schedule for our swimmers as many of them were competing in several events throughout the day, many coming home medals. It was nice to receive an e-mail from a parent from another school commending some of our students on their polite behaviour when assisting with helping his parents with a seat. Well done to not only these boys but also to all of our swim team who really are great sports and show fantastic maturity in and out of the pool.
The following students have qualified to compete at the State Championships on May 1 - Josh Martin 50m Freestyle, Raf Butteriss 50m Backstroke, Charlie Butteris 200m Individual Medley, and our 12- 13 Relay Members – Raf Butteriss, Fitzy Gurtler, Max Behrenbruch, Elijah Teoh Buldt. We wish them well, what an amazing achievement to make it through to State.
Last term, 8 year 7 students made their way out for Year 7 Tennis. There were some great shots by both the boys and the girls and laughs all day. The year 7 boys made it all the way to the finals, undefeated, but unfortunately lost to a stronger opponent.
The girls also had a successful day, making it all the way to finals as well, but again unfortunately losing to the stronger school.
Both teams of students showed great improvement and sportsmanship during the day, it was a great day out!
On the 31st of March a team of year 9 girls went out to Craigieburn softball club. We played 2 tough games, the first game we were unable to get a run and the experience of the opposing team was evident. Second game the girls came through with a little more dread, but more knowledge of the game under their belt, and although we lost, we came away with a few runs, and the girls were very happy and excited with the few runs that we had achieved!
Last term, our Year 9 and 10 volleyball team headed off to the one-day interschool tournament. It was an awesome day!
We played four games in total, winning three and only dropping one. Everyone played really well, showing great teamwork, energy and sportsmanship all day. There were some awesome rallies, strong serves, and big team efforts that helped us come out on top in most of our matches. It was great to see how much the team has improved, and the way everyone supported each other made a real difference.
Win or lose, we gave it everything.
Emily Johnson Year 10
Our year 7 Volleyball teams had the opportunity to represent NHS late in Term 1.
The girls teams played incredibly well, getting a few wins and exhibiting amazing team spirit! Their positive attitude translated to their gameplay, cheering after every point and supporting their peers. Unfortunately, we were unable to progress through to the next round, however they will be very motivated to get the win next year!
Our boys teams were full of confidence to start the day, playing incredibly well and getting a few wins on the board! The skill level was very strong, however a few defeats during the day meant we were unable to progress.
A big thank you to our coaches Lois, Liana, Georgia, Keeva, Finn, Emily, Pia and Saskia, for giving up their time to support our younger students!
