Specialist Feature News -  Visual Arts

Selamat Siang,

We have had a busy time in specialists this week with it being planning week. Students had all of their specialists packed into one day whilst their teachers planned, and all did a fantastic job being flexible with this change in timetable.

It has been a fun and colourful term in the art room as students have created artworks that will be a part of their costumes for the school musical next term. Senior students have also been helping with creating props for the musical during Senior Art Club at lunch time on Mondays.

Here is a quick look into what the students have been up to in visual arts this term:

Foundation: Students have been given lots of opportunities to explore the different resources in the art room. We have spoken about creating artworks, the different ways we can be creative and  the expectations in the art room. The foundation students have created lion artworks using crayon and pencil, decorated crowns into birds for their musical costume and explored colours of the rainbow and our features when creating self portraits.

1/2s:  Began the term creating a big class collaborative artwork in the form of a paper chain snake. They used markers, pastels and pencils to decorate their own chain link that they then added to their class snake. These are on display in the creative hub. The students have created animal masks to wear in the musical as they are jungle animals. They also created watercolour artworks to match their chosen animal.

3/4:  Students have explored mixed media collage when creating Eric Carle inspired, water colour snake artworks which can be seen on display in the creative hub. 3/4 Students have spent time creating t-shirts for the musical. As who's, they have decorated them in bright colours, including motifs from Dr. Seuss' stories and a letter W to represent Whoville.

5/6: The students started of the term creating monochromatic self portraits using oil pastels, water colour and fine liners. For their costumes, the students created t-shirts for their role as jungle people. Students started with experimenting with tie-dye to colour their shirts. Students then used a variety of fabric paint and markers to decorate their shirts.
