Year 5: Marysville Excursion

Sulari Nielsen, Year 5 Teacher

Our incredible excursion to Marysville was a day filled with adventure and learning. We started with a walk to the beautiful Steavensons Falls, where the stunning views captivated everyone.

The highlight of our trip was the informative sessions organised by Mr. Paul Brockhoff. He arranged engaging talks from three Forest Fire Management (FFM) Victoria colleagues, who shared their vast knowledge with our Year 5 students. They were introduced to important fire equipment, allowing them to hold and examine various pieces of fire equipment.

The tour of the 4WD Mercedes Benz Unimog fire tanker was particularly exciting, with explanations of its diverse tools that help in fire emergencies. Students also witnessed a fascinating demonstration of a fire table, showing how fires spread uphill through the forest. They also got to observe vivid pictures, camera trapping techniques and stories of recent fire activities in Marysville. All three FFM staff patiently answered numerous questions, enriching our understanding of fire management and preparation.

Our visit to the Lolly Shop was a delightful end to the day. A hundred students eagerly spent their money, leaving with handfuls of treats for themselves and their families. It was an inspiring, engaging, and well-planned day. A huge thank you to everyone who made it so successful. We will be back, Marysville!

Prep: Day 100

Helen Reid, Prep Team Leader

“Two days to go, one day to go!” These were the excited cries of Prep children as we counted the last few days until Day 100! On Wednesday 7th August Preps came to school dressed as 100-year-old men and women or wore some kind of 100 themed outfit. We gave thanks for the first 100 days of school and learned that God will take care of us for way more than 100 days.

Mrs Vaughan gave a 100 word speech and we stood for 100 seconds of silence. Throughout the day Preps made crowns with their Year 5 Buddies, built towers out of 100 cups or 100 blocks, completed crafts such as 100-day glasses or made a monster with 100 features. Eating our special Day 100 cake was a treat for snack. We now look forward to the next 100 days of school.

Year 4: Inquiry Expo

Mariah Reed, Year 4 Team Leader

Our Year 4 Inquiry Justice Seekers Expo gave our students the opportunity to hear from three remarkable experts.

Mr Steve Venour, who has been instrumental in supporting St Yared's School in Ethiopia, shared his experiences of providing education to children who would otherwise miss out.

Jyothi Chintapalli from International Needs Australia offered insights into global initiatives addressing poverty in some of the world's poorest communities.

Katherine Kirkwood from Stable One spoke passionately about her work in housing Melbourne's vulnerable unhoused population, especially during the harsh winter months.

This event allowed our students to learn firsthand from individuals actively fighting against injustice, empowering them to be more aware and become compassionate justice seekers in their own right.
