Book Week

Book Week has come and gone at Viewbank College, and it was a fun filled week where students and staff alike embraced the theme Reading is Magic.

Our first activity of the week was bookmark making, where students unleashed their creativity to design their own individualised bookmarks.

Next, students participated in a badge making workshop that was run by Banyule Council. Students crafted personalized badges that reflected their favourite books.

Book Week festivities then continued with a trivia competition where students and teachers came together to test their knowledge of books, authors and all things literary.

During the blackout poetry workshop students took old pages from books and used the power of creativity to transform them into beautiful new poems by blacking out words and leaving behind an entirely new piece of literature. These were then displayed throughout the library for others to enjoy.

Throughout the week teachers and students donated books to the Book Stall and these books were swapped for gold coin donations to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The College raised $473.00 in total for this worthy cause.

The week culminated in a dress-up parade where students and staff dressed as their favourite literary characters. The parade was a colourful display of costumes, from classic literary figures to modern day characters. It was a wonderful end to a week that truly brought the magic of reading to life.

Thank you to our Viewbank school community for coming together to show that reading truly is magic!
