Year 11 Retreat

"The Year 11 cohort recently had the pleasure of attending the Don Bosco Camp Retreat from the 14th to the 16th of August. During our three days on the Mornington Peninsula, we participated in a series of workshops focused on self-discovery and group collaboration, particularly emphasizing key skills that will benefit us as we enter our final year of school and beyond. Our experience was primarily led by Tom from the Passionist Youth Retreat Team, who guided us through a variety of hands-on activities, engaging discussions, and reflection periods. Tom brought a youthful, vibrant energy to the retreat, demonstrating his dedication to making a positive impact on today's society whilst keeping the content relevant and engaging. Not only did we have an amazing camp leader, but we were also accompanied by the most wonderful group of teachers, who offered support, attention, and compassion. By the end of day three, new connections and a greater understanding of each other were formed. We learned what it means to accept and value each other, along with other vital skills that we will use throughout our lifetime." Maeve Sutherland, Year 11

"The year 11 cohort of our college recently visited the Don Bosco Camp organisation in Dromana for our annual retreat. Our retreat leader, Tom, was a youthful, passionate, and committed leader. His professionalism and dedication to our experience cannot be ignored and he was a key pillar in creating a comforting and respectful retreat. The 3-day program aimed to improve our trust, connectivity, and respect within the cohort. Through fun activities, meaningful discussions, and well-spoken presentations, the Don Bosco group successfully challenged us and provoked reflection on our strengths and weaknesses at a year level. Lastly, our teachers and leaders within the school participated as if they were students throughout the retreat. This created a strengthened relationship between teachers and students, which is an amazing result. Thank you to Don Bosco Camps for producing a far-reaching retreat that will endure with us for many years." Patrick Wilson, Year 11

Staff Professional Learning Day

On Monday 19th August the staff took part in a Professional Learning Day.

We began the day with a beautiful prayer and acknowledgement of country by our Cultural Liaison Leader Laura Muranty and then by heard from our guest speaker Liam Doherty- Religious Education Advisor from DOSCEL about the FIRE Carrier Project.

Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education (FIRE)

FIRE Carrier schools support the work of the Opening the Doors Foundation by empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to make educational choices for their children and their future.

FIRE Carriers are students, staff, and community representatives who share a passion for learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history and are committed to sharing this knowledge and promoting Reconciliation within the school and into the school community.

Three core values underpin the FIRE Carrier Program and a school’s covenant.

• Spirituality

• Cultural Recognition and Awareness

• Practical Reconciliation and Justice

Catholic Social Teaching Principles • Dignity of the human person • Solidarity • The common good • Subsidiarity

We then went to the Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association in Hastings to take part in a Cultural Awareness tour where we upskilled ourselves and our understanding and knowledge of First Nations cultures, histories, and contemporary realities.
