Junior School Captains Address

During Term 3, 2024 a lot has been happening at Bemin Secondary College! We’ve had many new clubs start; we’ve celebrated sports through Athletics day and Staff vs Student sports, we’ve had many excursions, and we’ve also announced our school’s house colours! Altogether, it has been a very fun and eventful term.

Student Leader Forum

This term, we had our very first Student Leadership Forum! In the forum, we all had the chance to meet each other, work together and share our thoughts. It was the first time our whole leadership team had ever been able to come together, so it was very exciting!

As groups, which included both Year 7s and Year 10s, we completed several activities. First, we familiarised ourselves with each other. It was amazing, finally getting everyone properly together and to get to know each other!

We worked as a team to come up with new and innovative ideas for our school. All of us contributed to our team brainstorm, and at the end, we had many excellent suggestions.

Our first Student Leadership Forum was extremely successful, as not only did we have proposals, but we were also able to utilise them. We have even started to launch some of the ideas we’ve had and turn these into actions.

But most importantly, we all had a lot of fun!

Thank you to all the teachers, staff and students for making it possible for us to have such a great Term 3 at Bemin Secondary College! We look forward to what Term 4 will bring us!

Werribee Zoo

Our year 7 students recently embarked on a trip to Werribee Zoo, where they delved into the Zoos Victoria Community Conservation Campaign, "They're Calling on You". Students looked at how they can help the Gorilla Doctors and completed a STEM challenge aimed in designing a "Go Bag" that the Gorilla Doctors could use to take in the field with them. This immersive experience helped to inspire them as they develop their own community conservation campaigns, sparking creativity and enthusiasm. The day was filled with fun and learning, and we eagerly anticipate the innovative campaigns the students will create.

Book Week

Visiting Warreen Primary School

To celebrate Book Week, two Year 7 classes visited Warreen Primary School to read to the Foundation students. The excitement was palpable on both sides, with the Year 7 students eager to share stories and the Foundation kids thrilled to work with the older students. It was a heartwarming exchange that highlighted the joy of reading and the enthusiasm of both age groups.

Staff vs. Student Netball

Go the teachers!!!

The highly anticipated match between the Year 7 cohort and the staff kicked off at lunch on Thursday, August 29. Five student teams competed in a round-robin format, vying for the chance to face off against the staff team. Despite the students' best efforts, the staff proved unstoppable, with their consistent shots outshining the top student team. Special thanks to our student scorers, Irae and Miss Noble our referees for the afternoon and the sideline cheer squads for keeping the atmosphere high.

Stay tuned for the next exciting showdown between staff and students in Term 4!

Junior School Assistant Principal Address

What an amazing Term 3 we’ve had with our Year 7s. A big shout-out to all our Year 7 students and teachers for making it such a fun and exciting term. We started off the term with a bang, diving into our Student Leader Forum where our year 7 student leaders got to meet their senior year counterparts and dive into some meaningful learning about turning "ideas into actions".

The excitement continued with our Year 7 basketball teams representing us brilliantly at the interschool sports competition. We had a blast during Book Week, with trips to Truganina Library and sharing stories with the Foundation students at Warreen Primary School. Science Week was a highlight, featuring an incredible Amazing Race that had everyone buzzing in the Science labs. We had the epic staff vs. student netball match and our very first Athletics Carnival down at the Vic Uni track, where everyone gave it their all.

Our lunchtime clubs have continued to be led by our student leaders with the support of our amazing teachers.  Art club has continued this term with Miss Khoury creating some fantastic pieces of work, Drama club with Mr Daniel has been an exciting addition this term with many students taking the opportunity to practice their skills. Last week the debating club met for the first time with Miss Higginbottom, with students starting to gather their arguments in preparation for their debates. I heard Oakley won a round at Games club last week in Smash Bros.

Thank you to all our students, teachers, and families for making this term so special. We’re looking forward to more adventures and achievements in the next term!
