Principal's Report

It has been an amazing term. We have had many 'firsts' this term. Our first Year 10 Formal; our first Athletics day; our Year 7 visit to Werribee Zoo; our first Year 10 into Year 11 course counselling; our first information evening for Year 10 2025; our first time on the College oval and our first after school joint school improvement meeting with some of our high academic performing students from both Year 7 and Year 10. As we continue to emphasize our high academic and behavioural expectations to our students, it is a joy to see them embrace all these opportunities with enthusiasm. So many of our students are striving for their individual best and I encourage them to continue to do this into Term 4.

Student Achievements in Community Sports

We have many students who participate in sport for our local clubs. I had the opportunity to watch the Under 16 Football Boys Div 2 Grand final between Tarneit and Manor Lakes. It was a tight game with many Bemin Secondary College students in the Tarneit Tigers team. They moved head in the last quarter to win convincingly. Bemin student Brodie Lestrange was "Best on Ground."  On the following weekend, Year 10 student Jacinta Eteuati was playing in the football Under 18 Womens final for Point Cook against Caroline Springs. Unfortunately, Caroling Springs won that one but we know Jacinta would have played with great skill and determination.

We also have students involved in multiple Rugby League finals across early Septemberl. In the National Rugby League Victoria - Grand Finals playing  for the Truganina Rabbitohs Rugby League Club were the following Bemin Secondary College students:

 Under 13s Boys Division A

Players:

Jarren Tapara 7A

Zyleej Nathan - Hape 7C

Tamati Marshall 7B

The final score: 32-6 to Casey Warriors Under 13s Boys. Our students may have been runner up but  they played with tenacity and heart. Highly skilled players unfortunately lost to the better team on the day. Well done boys for a marvellous effort!

In the National Rugby Union Victoria - Grand Final representing Wyndham Rhinos Rugby Union Football Club in the Under 16s Boys was Steve Maalo from 10G. The team won with the final score: 21-13. Steve put points on the board for his team with conversions. Highly skilled and showed leadership on the field. Congratulations Steve! Thank you to Ms. Toloa who provided the Rugby League and Rugby Union reports.

2025 Update

Our College enrolments for 2025 are progressing rapidly. Currently, we have over 300 students coming into the College at Year 10 2025, all of which are in zone and 165 Year 7 students joining our current students on the Everton campus. This growth means we require close to 35 full time teachers and more education support staff across both campuses across all subject areas and core school administration areas. We have been actively recruiting since the beginning of Term 3 and will continue to do so until the beginning of the 2025 academic school year.

Facilities

At this stage to support the student growth on the Morris Road campus, the College is expecting to receive both general classroom relocatables and specialist art relocatables. Our School Council continue to lobby for funding for Stage 2 build on Morris road. Four further buildings have been planned for but are not yet funded. It is clear that with the increase of enrolments they will be needed sooner rather than later! Our Everton campus will be able to support the enrolments with the current buildings.

Even though we have two well-designed campuses the completed sites need further additions to ensure their security. Over the coming weeks further signage, security cameras and automated gates are being installed.

Canteen coming in 2025!

The School Council has been undergoing the process of selecting a canteen provider to run our two school canteens next year. A preferred business has been chosen and I look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming weeks.

In Final

Enjoy reading the bumper addition taking note in particular of the subject reports in the Teaching & Learning section and our report on Student excellence. I am very proud of our whole school community - students and staff. Many of our staff have continued to embrace participating in setting up not just the curriculum part of a new school but all the special experiences that our students enjoy. This is very apparent as you read through the newsletter.

I will going on long service leave from Tuesday 10 September and during this time Mr. Aaron Dass will be Acting College Principal and Mr. Ignatius Zanetidis will be the Acting Assistant Principal - Senior school. I will be back ready on the first day of Term 4. I wish all our school community a restful September holidays.
