Workplace Health & Safety News
Vehicles entering, parking and leaving the school
This is a timely reminder for all drivers who drop off and pick up students, or park within the grounds. We have observed some repeated driving behaviours which endanger students and staff, particularly in our top driveway and carpark. Our boom gate is also suffering, as vehicles have damaged the mechanism.
There is no temporary ‘drop and go’ within the main entrance at the top gate, that is, in front of the boom gate. By dropping off or picking up students in the mouth of the driveway, parents and carers risk injuring pedestrians or impeding the flow of traffic leaving the school. Unfortunately, Waterworks Road is a busy thoroughfare, with limited places to stop. A quick, thoughtless action could end up in tragedy.
If you are bringing your vehicle into the grounds, please be very careful about where you park. We note cars being parked unsafely in places which restrict access to buildings or paths. If drivers are not aware, their vehicles could be towed at the driver’s expense. The WHS committee has requested further signage to ensure safety on campus. Please heed any notices and exercise due caution with parking.

CYOD Update
We are excited to announce that Expressions of Interest are now open for the 2025 Choose-Your-Own-Device (CYOD) school laptop program.
For several years we have been providing families with the opportunity to choose a departmentally managed device for a more succinct and practical learning experience for their students.
Last year alone we facilitated almost 500 device repairs through accidental damage protection and warranty available through the program. Without such protection, families would’ve been liable for exorbitant part repair costs or forced to purchase another device outright to get their students connected and learning again.
We therefore ask all parents and carers to consider the benefits of the program when looking to purchase a device for their child in preparation for 2025. Some of the benefits include:
- 3 years of warranty and accidental damage protection facilitated on-site by the schools IT department
- Access to network controls to block games and social media at home
- Access to school owned software including Operating System
Please see the attached Handbook and Selection Guide for more information on the terms and conditions as well as the devices we have on offer.
If you have any questions or queries about the program or IT at The Gap SHS, please get in touch by emailing CYOD@thegapshs.eq.edu.au.
Student activities – Non-curriculum
Planning has already commenced for end-of-year activities for our student cohorts, including the Year 12 formal, senior jersey, Junior School activities at Theme parks and the Boat Cruise for Year 9 students.Invitations may not be offered to students with outstanding fees on their school accounts. We encourage families to contact the school if they have any concerns regarding the charges on their children’s accounts or if they require a payment plan.
Financial accounts for Year 12 students need to be finalised as soon as possible and no later than the start of Term 3 2024 – this includes payments to be finalised on any payment plan already in place. Payment plans will not be offered in Term 3 for Year 12 students.
As advised previously on our website, in our school newsletter and in correspondence to families, students may not be invited to participate in any non-curriculum activities, if they have outstanding school fees. We refer to clause 32 (Debt Management) of the Student Resource Scheme Participation Agreement form, which clearly indicates that where participation fees are overdue, the Principal has the discretion to exclude a student from an optional school activity.
