Anxiety about Leaving School

For many of our students, school life is all they've known over their 13 years at school, they have grown comfortable in their surroundings, and it is a scary, daunting thought having to process the realisation, that it is coming to an end and in a sense, will be entering the "unknown".

You may notice over the next couple of weeks, that the Year 12 students may start to exhibit unusual behaviours.  As a community, what we can do, is support the Year 12s.

What can we do?

Listen - take time to listen to their worries.  Talking things through can help them feel supported.

What can Year 12s do?

There are lots of things you can do to support yourself during these times.  Learning some strategies can help you feel better prepared to cope with any worry or stress.

  • learn about stress and your early warning signs. Stress is our body’s way of reacting to change, there are things you can do that can help you cope.
  • make a list of things you can do to support yourself. Things that you enjoy and that help you de-stress.
  • accept that some things won’t go to plan, but can give us opportunities for growth.
  • be kind to yourself. Giving yourself a hard time only makes things worse.
