School Student Broadband Initiative: eligibility letter

Letters home via students & by email today.

The School Student Broadband Initiative offers eligible households with school-aged students free internet at home until 31 December 2025.

Led by the National Broadband Network (NBN), the Australian Government initiative seeks to boost educational opportunities and narrow the digital divide.

To support eligible students to take part, DET gave NBN the home addresses of Victorian school students, for NBN to use to identify students who may be able to take part in the initiative, based on the eligibility criteria. DET provided addresses only. There are no financial checks as part of our pre-check process for the initiative.

Schools also do not make decisions about a household’s financial need for this initiative. Any student household that meets the eligibility criteria is welcome to apply.

After receiving the letter from the school, families and carers can choose to contact the NBN’s National Referral Centre for an eligibility assessment.

If eligible, they will receive a voucher to use by 31 December 2024 to access free internet at home until 31 December 2025.
