A message from Tami -Jo

It has been such a joy to walk around the school grounds before school and during breaks. The energy here is truly vibrant, with students buzzing with excitement and eager to share everything on their minds – from what they’ve been learning to who their friends are and even their ideas for improving the school! It’s such a pleasure to spend time with them in the playground, as well as to observe their hard work and enthusiasm in the classroom.
I want to extend a huge thank you to our incredible teachers, who have put in so much effort to build strong routines, foster meaningful connections, and create engaging learning programs. Their dedication is truly making a difference.
We’ve had an amazing start to the year, and I’m so excited for all the wonderful things we’ll continue to accomplish together!
Attendance /Late Arrivals
As I observed our morning routines across the classrooms here at Marram, I noticed that a number of students arrived late, sometimes up to 20-30 minutes after the start of class. Unfortunately, this means that they miss out on important time to get set up for the day and, in some cases, part of the first lesson.
Late arrivals can also disrupt the flow of learning, as teachers may need to pause their work with small groups to catch late arrivals up, which isn't ideal for anyone involved. We want every student to have the best start to their day, and your support in ensuring they are settled and ready by 8:35am is hugely appreciated.
While traffic can sometimes be tricky, we know it’s a challenge we all face. That’s why we ask that you plan a little extra time in the morning to help students arrive on time. Together, we can make sure that each student starts their day in the best possible way.
Thank you so much for your understanding and continued support.
Traffic / Parking
I truly appreciate your ongoing support and efforts in helping us maintain a smooth and safe drop-off routine. I do want to gently remind everyone that the traffic and parking situation requires a collective effort from all of us, and together, we can make a positive impact.
Recently, we’ve had a few families parking in the stop-and-drop zones and leaving their cars, which unfortunately disrupts the flow of the drop-off process for others. When cars double park next to these zones, it makes it challenging for traffic to move freely, creating delays and, more importantly, posing safety risks for our students.
I know everyone wants the best for our children, and with your help, we can ensure that our drop-off and pick-up areas are safe and
efficient for all families. Let's work together to make the traffic situation as smooth and safe as possible for everyone.
Toilets
We wanted to take a moment to encourage all families to have a chat with their children about the importance of toilet hygiene. As part of our efforts to support students' well-being and ensure they are making the most of their learning time, we are encouraging students to use the toilet during specific break times. This helps them stay focused and engaged in class, while also promoting safety and efficiency during the school day.
Your support in reinforcing this at home will help us maintain a smooth and safe routine for everyone. We truly appreciate your partnership in promoting good hygiene and responsible habits.
Students with Additional Needs
At DCC, we are proud to support a diverse range of students, including those with additional needs, and we are grateful for the funding we receive to help meet their unique requirements. We understand that there may be some misconceptions about how this funding works, especially around the idea of 1-to-1 support. In reality, it’s quite rare for funding to cover this level of support directly.
As a school, we aim to use our funding in the most effective way possible to support students at all levels of need. The funding allows us to provide a wide range of services, such as staff to run and manage the Disability Inclusion program, as well as access to our dedicated Educational Support staff, allied health professionals like speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists, and specialized programs and resources.
We always make decisions with the goal of offering the best support to all our students, drawing on the expertise and information available to us. We are incredibly proud of the inclusivity of our school community, and we are committed to providing an environment where every child can thrive.
We’ve had a number of inquiries about this, and we wanted to share this information to help provide clarity and ensure that everyone feels informed.
SSG Meetings
In the coming weeks, our teachers will be scheduling Student Support Group meetings with the families of students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Families will be contacted via email with details of the meeting times. These meetings are a fantastic opportunity for families, teachers, and allied health professionals to come together and collaborate for the benefit of the student.
We are excited to work as a team to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive.
NAPLAN Information
Open Classrooms
We are excited to invite you to visit your child’s classroom and meet their teacher in person on Tuesday, 4th March, from 3:00-3:45 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to show you their classroom if you haven’t had the chance to visit yet, as well as a time for you to ask any questions about the curriculum or programs in place.
The week prior, all cohorts will receive a video link to a presentation about the curriculum and programs, highlighting the staff, events, camps, and activities your child will be involved in throughout the year. If you have any questions after viewing the presentation or would like further clarification, this is the perfect opportunity to ask your child’s teacher.
Please note that this is not a parent-teacher interview, but rather a chance to learn more about the overall program for your child. We would love to see you there, and we know your child will be thrilled to show you their classroom, share their class routines, and discuss the exciting things they will be doing throughout the year.
Have a great day everyone.
