Stefania Mantinioti  - Secondary Sub School Leader

Greetings to our school community,

I am delighted to share the exciting progress we’ve witnessed during the first 6 weeks of Term 1 at our Secondary Sub School. The learning journey continues to be dynamic and enriching, thanks to the remarkable engagement from our students, teachers, and education support staff.

In our classrooms, students have been actively exploring and developing their skills across a variety of subjects:

• Mathematics: Learners are diving into the world of numbers as they focus on place value, counting, fractions, and decimals. This foundational work is setting the stage for more advanced problem-solving skills.

• English: Our budding authors and critical readers are honing their skills in reading comprehension, essay writing, and constructing complex sentences. These activities are sharpening their abilities to express ideas clearly and thoughtfully.

• Personal and Social Capabilities: In this important area, students are learning about the expected behaviours both within school and the wider community, fostering a sense of responsibility and respect for others.

• Science: Our curious explorers are investigating the natural phenomena of day and night while engaging in discussions about natural disasters, nurturing an understanding of the world around them.

Our Future Ready classrooms have continued to benefit from weekly excursions. Recently, students enjoyed an energising session at Interschool Sports, which has helped them build teamwork and resilience. A visit to ACMI is upcoming where students will be offered an immersive journey through the past, present, and future of the moving image, featuring interactive experiences and captivating stories that brought history and creativity to life.

For our VPC students, work experience sessions are proving to be invaluable. They recently embarked on their first community excursion to practice road safety, and more adventures are on the horizon. Future trips focusing on train travel and further road safety exploration promise to expand their practical understanding and independence.

Our dedicated teachers are working tirelessly to assess each student’s progress and to design tailored programs that address individual needs. Meaningful Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals are being set, and we look forward to sharing these insights with you at the end of the term.

l extend my sincere thanks to everyone—students, staff, and families—for contributing to such a vibrant and supportive learning environment.
