Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

Swimming Sports to be held this Friday

We have decided to still proceed with the annual House Swimming Sports this Friday despite the mid 30's weather temperature forecast. We will be eliminating a few events from the program and aim to finish not long after 2 p.m.   Therefore, we will be operating at speed to rush the event through.  We have decided not to stop for a 30 minute break and serve lunch whilst continuing with events.

The further weather predicted is borderline to having the event cancelled but  the normal weather pattern over the last few weeks has shown that the hottest part of the day has not occurred until between 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.  With this in mind we are aiming to have all students back at school by 2:30 p.m. Students can be picked up from school at the normal dismissal time of 3:25pm.

Students will have to wear rashies or  old T-shirts, drink plenty of water and continually slip slop and slap!

Welcome to 2025

I trust you all had an awesome summer break, and are ready for an exciting 2025. I would officially like to extend a warm (sorry about the hot weather) welcome all new families, students and staff members to  Wedderburn College.  It looks like being a traditional Australian return to school with the hot weather. Please make sure that you have your wide brimmed hat, water bottle and always think sun smart.

Welcome to new staff
Welcome to new staff

New staff include Primary teachers: Miss Grace Lockhart, Mr Harry Campbell, Mrs Adele George (absent from photo), Secondary: Mr Michael Watson, Mrs Anuska Mediwaththe and Mr Flynn Harrington – Education Support.

Thanks for everyone's cooperation with the  primary student testing last week as this allows us for a smooth start to the year  and also enables families to pass on information to classroom teachers.

School Calendars

The 2025 school calendar posters have been distributed this week to families. Please contact the school office if you missed receiving one.

Camps Postponed.

Unfortunately, we have been advised by the Department of Education to postpone the Year 9 and Year 7 camps next week, due to the predicted extreme weather and fire events in that part of the state. Although this is disappointing, as this is always a great way to start the year, we have just received confirmation that we have secured Week 8  of this term to proceed with Year 7 & 9 camps to Hopetoun. All going well.

Appointments for Principals

I apologise in advance, unfortunately I am the hardest person to pin down due to a variety of factors, such as meetings, pre-booked appointments and prior commitments. Most of February is already booked out.  We do have two Assistant Principals who may be able to assist when I am unavailable. For curriculum and school related questions please phone the school office and ask for Mr Alexander Iser or for all student matters and school related questions  please contact Mr Dean Lockhart. I cannot guarantee that we are available if you simply turn up to school as we are all involved in teaching classes this year and quite often have to step into classrooms to cover staff absences as well.

Please contact the school office 54943011 for all appointments.

OHSC - Out of Hours School Care

Due to a staffing issue and low numbers at this stage we will not be having any before school care operating however after school care will go head. Please book your times via the school office 54943011.

Chapel Street Carpark

Please do not use Chapel Street as a carpark or drop off as building works are still in progress. There is parking available along Hospital Street and at the Donaldson Park Complex.

School Building Updates

The work has continued with the school building up grades over the school holidays.

A lot of work has been completed of things that you don't see such as new underground power, filling in the old underground water tank (3.5 deep and 7 metres wide), new steel work for internal walls/doors, the replacement of thirty old concrete stumps and fixing internal termite damage from decades gone by.  The KLC sound proofing, heating and cooling, painting, new lights and installation has almost been completed.   Hopefully by the end of Term 1 we may have the KLC back and operating.  The other works are due to be completed in May/June.

Time is Running out

Submit Recipe for the Wedderburn College Cookbook Now!

On the 1st of July 2025 it will be 160 years to the day when a school officially opened in Wedderburn.  The 160 Years of Education will be celebrated the last week of Term 2, 2025 with a variety of activities across the week to embrace this monumental occasion.  One of the key features of the celebrations will be the launch of a hard cover, 200 page, coffee table recipe & history book.   We are now calling on families to submit their favorite recipes or Grandmas greatest hidden secrets to be considered for publication in this important book. Please understand that we are happy to take several recipes from families and community members, however it will not be possible for every recipe to be published. Not everyone will have a recipe published.  We have the rest of this term to submit recipes. Please use the format attached to submit your recipes, see below.
