So many ways to ‘Let your Light Shine’

Walking around the College before and after school, you realise how lucky our young men are to have the opportunity to ‘let their lights shine.’ As a College, we always want to bring out the best in our young men. Our co-curricular offerings are vast and varied. We offer opportunities that include sport, drama, music and social justice. There is something for everyone here at the College and it is imperative that we realise the importance of co-curricular to ensuring that when our young men leave through the front gates for the final time that they are well-rounded young men.

One of the highlights for me over the last week was the way our College Orchestra, Concert Band and Choir performed at our Opening Mass and High Achievers’ Assembly at the Quaycentre last Friday. The pieces they played and sung do not come together overnight. This takes months of practice for our young men to develop their skills to ensure everyone is in sync and the notes and the sounds of their voices come out flawlessly. I congratulate all our students who were part of the orchestra, band and choir and would also like to thank Dr David Taylor (Head of Co-curricular Music) who conducted both the bands and the choir.

Another highlight was the outstanding feats of some of our cricketers over the last week. In our First XI this week Jack Allen (Year 11) achieved a hat-trick as well as a five-wicket haul. It is incredibly special for the Allen family as Will Allen (Year 12) also plays in this team and has been scoring plenty of runs this season. Campbell Meilak (Year 8) also achieved a hat-trick playing for the 14 Gold Team, a truly remarkable achievement from someone so young. In our Second XI, Joseph Lombardo (Year 12) scored 93 runs in his team’s win over St Pius X College.

On Sunday the ISA XI beat the Combined GPS XI Cricket Team by 42 runs. The ISA team included four of our players: William Allen, Matthew Plunkett, Charlie Gray, and Luke Hill. Congratulations to all these young men, especially Luke who scored 23 runs-not out and took three wickets for 14 runs, Charlie Gray also claiming three wickets. Well done boys.
