Believe
Last Friday we celebrated both our Opening Mass and High Achievers’ Assembly at Quaycentre. It was a wonderful day of celebration where the whole College community celebrated these events together. This year the College is focusing on the Touchstone of ‘Inclusive Community.’ We were reminded in our Opening Mass that no matter what race, background, colour of one’s skin or sexuality, that we are all welcome in God’s House and the St Patrick’s College community. As an inclusive community I always say that we do not tolerate difference; we celebrate difference. It is up to all of us to celebrate each member of our community’s uniqueness, just as God does.
Our College Duxes for 2024 James Kazzi and Jeremy Simonetto spoke to the students about taking advantage of all the opportunities that are available to them now and not to wait as their time at the College will go so quickly. They also emphasised that they needed to believe in themselves and use their support networks. Their results were due to their hard work and perseverance. However, they had an amazing team around them to ensure that they could achieve their amazing results. They relied on the support of their parents and extended family who always believed in them and helped them to keep going when they were getting frustrated or not getting the results that they wanted. They relied on their teachers, not just the teachers who taught them in Years 11 and 12, but all the teachers who taught them from Year 5 all the way through to their graduation. They relied on their coaches, support staff and everyone else they met at the College as every interaction they had here at St Patrick’s, no matter how small, had an impact on who they are and what they achieved. They are two remarkable young men who will go on and make an impact not only in their chosen fields but also on society in general. These two young men personify our ‘Ideal Graduate’.
