Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

Week 3, Term 1

Well, it was not the type of start to the Summer season for which we had hoped. Monday saw the clouds come over, the light dim and a torrent of rain fall in the middle of the day, washing out the majority of the first day of training. Fingers crossed the poor weather is behind us and we have more blue-sky days ahead.

A reminder to families and boys to make sure they have downloaded the SPC App and subscribed to the Junior School Fixtures tag and the Junior School Sport tag of their sport. This is where you will receive the most up to date information on games, training, and the weekly draw. Please make sure you have enabled push notifications as well. If there have been no notifications sent out, please presume that everything is going ahead as scheduled.

There have been changes made to the training schedule for the Junior School. Please make sure you view the updated schedule in the app and are aware of your son’s training schedule.

On Thursday, the Junior School will be involved in the annual Cross Country Carnival. Boys will wear their sport uniform to and from school on the day. All boys are expected to participate in the run and are asked to seek sponsorship. The money raised goes towards our Lenten partners for 2025. Parents/carers are welcome to spectate and are asked to sit along the benches on the Fraser Street side of Breen Oval.

There is still time for boys that are not involved in a Summer sport team to sign up for the Summer Sport Skills Program. The program runs on Saturday mornings during the Summer season and helps to develop moves skills and sport skills. Sessions run for 1.5 hours and are held on the Scientia Courts at the College. The first session will be this weekend, commencing at 7:30 AM. Boys meet Mr Jeffery in the Powell Pavilion for roll call.

Boys in Year 5 interested in trialing for the Junior School Swimming Squad are asked to attend the time trial at the College pool on Monday 17 February. This trial will supersede sport training. Strokes that boys may trial for are backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and freestyle. Boys will need to bring their College swimmers, towel and goggles for the trial. Boys will be timed and selected against the IPSHA carnival guide times. Boys in Year 6 will be selected based on their times achieved at the 2024 swimming carnival.

I look forward to a great first weekend of Summer sport and wish all our teams the best of luck as they start their College representation.
