Year 11 and 12

Senior School

It has been a busy and enjoyable start to the year, welcoming our Year 12s back for what will be their final year of school and welcoming our Year 11s to the Senior School.

The Senior School Team has grown significantly this year. Sally Tymensen and Kylie Smith have joined us as Year 12 coordinators, and Hannah Ryan and Tom Payne are our new Year 11 coordinators. We are all excited to support and guide our VCE and VCE VM students through 2025. Students, parents and carers are encouraged to reach out to the coordinators if they have any questions or concerns.

Year 11

The transition to VCE and VCE VM can be one of the most challenging that students will face in their education and we encourage them to plan for success.

Year 11 VCE VM students have started at TAFE and many of them have begun their Structured Workplace Learning.

Year 11 VCE students are well into their first outcomes in their subjects, and by now will have had assessments in each subject area. VCE students attended a Year 11 Assembly on Friday 21 February about “How VCE Works” where the requirements to achieve their VCE in two years were outlined, and students were provided with advice on how they can succeed.

Year 12

On Monday 17 February, our Year 12 students attended our annual Big Day Out at RMIT in the city. The focus of the day is for students to engage in their education and look forward to the celebrating their successes this year and beyond 2025.

Students all engaged in the day, listening to Sebastian, from RMIT discuss the different options that RMIT have to offer. Nathan Hulls, a motivational speaker, also spoke to the students about the importance of 'being them' and overcoming challenges in a positive way. Finally, the VCE VM and VCE groups worked separately looking at what the future of 2025 and beyond looks like for them.

Student will use reflections from this day to guide them through the year and hopefully motivate them for a great 2025 and completion of the VCE or VCE VM certificates. Overall the day was a great success and positive outcomes were felt by both teachers and students alike.

In the evening it was the parents' and carers' turn to be motivated by Nathan Hulls, when he spoke about ways to guide their children through this year and beyond. He gave them ideas around the 'why' and the 'what next', providing a bright outlook for all involved.

Year 12 is a pivotal year; it is crucial for students to approach it with focus, dedication, and a positive mindset. As we begin the school year, it's important to highlight several key aspects of our school policies that help ensure a focused and respectful learning environment.

  • Uniform: It’s important for students to be in full academic uniform at all times. This includes black full leather lace up shoes. If you are not sure of the uniform required or have questions please contact Year Level Cooordinators. Brunchtime detentions will be issued for breaches in uniform.
  • Headphones: If your child finds that they need to have headphones for their private study periods, these need to be corded headphones. Where the cord is visibly connected to their laptop.
  • School Diary use: The school diary needs to be taken to every lesson. This is used to document students' homework, upcoming assessments, goals, and provide guidance on how to use their private study sessions.
  • Private Study Room: The private study room is now open for brunchtime and lunchtime. I thank those students who are part of the group representing the cohort in keeping the room open and available. Please see Mrs Heath if there are any concerns about the room, or if students would like to add their name to the list of representatives responsible for considering what the room might look like for 2025.

Thanks for the great start to the year, and here is to a fantastic 2025 for all our Senior School students.

Warm regards,

Senior School Team
