Principal Team's Message

Our Assistant Principals reflect on Term One so far

Start to the school year

Thank you to our wonderful staff, students, and their families for a great start to the 2025 school year. Students are keenly demonstrating our College values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Endeavour by making sure they are ready to learn, engaging in Pastoral Care sessions, and building relationships with their teachers and peers. The swimming carnival proved to be another great success, and our Year 7 students have just returned from an action packed Year 7 camp ready to catch up on some sleep. Thank you to Demie Klaromenos, and Mel Casha, Jacob Gaut, Hannah Nicholls, and the Year 7 teachers for their leadership and running of these respective events. Our Middle and Senior school students have also been involved in many events that have enabled them to get to know their new classes, teachers and set themselves up for success in 2025 and beyond. A big thank you to Sarah Heath and Kylie Smith for organising the Year 12 Big Day Out at RMIT. Our Year 12s are prepared to complete their final year of school, and make the most of each opportunity that is presented to them.

From the start of this year, our focus has been working together to ensure all students are ready to learn each day. Our new Pastoral Care structure at the start of each day provides students and teachers the opportunity to check in each morning. Pastoral Care teachers are supporting students to use their diaries, address any uniform concerns, celebrate positive behaviours, and provide mentoring and guidance for the young people in their care. Teachers are also working with students to emphasise the importance of students arriving to classes promptly with all the necessary equipment and resources for their learning.

Parents, please support these messages by speaking to your child each day and encouraging them to be ready to learn. By continuing to work in partnership we will ensure continued positive outcomes for our students.

Reporting and Parent Student Teacher interviews

Our first round of Work Habit Reports are due for release on Compass on Friday 7th March. Work Habit Ratings play a key role in encouraging a positive learning mindset. These reports provide important feedback for students and an opportunity to reflect on areas of strength, on their effort, organisation, and engagement in class. We encourage parents and carers to discuss these with their child, reinforcing the importance of strong work habits.

Our Term 1 Parent Student Teacher interviews are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 1st April with bookings made via Compass. Please look out for the Compass messaging about how and when to book appointments. Historically, attendance on these days is excellent, and we’d like to thank parents and carers for their ongoing support in student learning and engagement.

Sunbury College Student Dress Code 👔

Wearing a full and correct uniform is important to creating a connection and sense of belonging to our school community. Our uniform plays an important role in promoting students’ pride, self-confidence, and feelings of belonging in our College community. We continue to remind all students of the expectations to wear full school uniform every day, the supports available to assist students and families to meet these expectations, and the clear consequences for those students who choose not to follow our dress code.

A reminder that windcheaters, hoodies and other jumpers are not to be worn travelling to and from school, or when students are at school.

Additional layers of clothing may be worn underneath the uniform for added warmth, provided these undergarments are completely hidden.

The College jacket and jumper are available for purchase from the uniform shop.  We remind families that plain white socks are to be worn (no markings) and that 'black, polishable, hard leather, lace up shoes with a heel' are the only footwear permitted to be worn to school.

Uniform can be purchased from PSW Sunbury, 6/106-110 Gap Road, Sunbury. PSW is open every Wednesday-Friday from 10am until 5:00 pm.

Sunbury College Mobile Phone Policy

In accordance with DE and the statewide mobile phone ban, students at Sunbury College are required to keep their mobile phones locked securely in their locker from 8:55 am until 3:10 pm every day. This facilitates a safe and supportive learning environment in classrooms, and ensures students’ safety and wellbeing is safeguarded in the yard and shared spaces at the College.

Students can only use a credit / debit card or cash for purchasing items at the school canteen.

In the event that a student is found to have their mobile phone on their person and not in their locker, this process will be followed:

NAPLAN 2025 - Year 7 and 9

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing will be conducted from Wednesday 12th until Friday 21st March. Students in Year 7 and 9 will complete online tests in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions, and Numeracy.

In Term 3, each student’s personal NAPLAN report will be provided to parents and will describe their skills in writing, reading, language conventions and numeracy. It will also provide information about performance in relation to national minimum standards.

For more information about the test, please visit the NAPLAN website

Pick up and Drop off - Access to the College car park and bus lane.

Only staff, buses, and deliveries are permitted to enter the Sunbury College car park and bus lane. The practice forms part of our Traffic Management Plan designed to mitigate risk and limit vehicles operating on our site when all our students and staff are arriving and leaving each day. This also allows for the smooth transition of school buses in and out of the school.

We ask that families undertake their drop off in the nearby streets and encourage their child to use the ample pedestrian crossings or underpass.

We have two allocated parking spots for accessible parking; vehicles that have accessible parking permits displayed, where the occupants are accessing the school site, are permitted to park in these spaces.

Pedestrian traffic

Parents and carers are asked to reinforce messaging to students to cross the surrounding roads with care. Students should be using the manned crossings, the underpass (Riddell Rd) and designated crossings when they are available. A small number of students continue to run across Riddell Rd, bypassing the pedestrian crossing and increasing the risk of being struck by a car. We thank you for your support in endorsing student safety at Sunbury College.

Warm regards

Principal Team
