Dear Sunbury College community,
Welcome to a new and exciting school year at Sunbury College. I hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable break, and that you are ready for the year ahead with enthusiasm and determination.
To our returning students and families, welcome back. Your continued commitment to learning, growth, and our College community is what makes Sunbury College such a special place. To our new students, families, and staff joining us this year - welcome. We are delighted to have you as part of our College and look forward to supporting you as you settle into our vibrant school environment.
In 2023 and 2024 we saw consecutive increases in positive school endorsement in the three key surveys we conduct across the school year from students, staff, and parents and carers. We look to learn from this feedback and to implement further actions to take the next steps in increasing the learning and wellbeing growth of every young person within our school.
We do so this year with a renewed focus on School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS); in particular the implementation and explicit teaching of school wide expectations and processes, and a focus on staff professional learning centred on positive management strategies. Our aim is to enhance student wellbeing and engagement within the school, and foster greater student self-regulation, agency, and motivation in the classrooms to support greater learning growth.
In the last whole school review, staff collaboration was seen as one of the three strengths of the school. In 2025, we are enhancing this by focusing on how, when, and why staff across the school collaborate to enhance teaching and learning practices to increase responsiveness to student needs.
We recognise that success is built on strong partnerships between students, teachers, and families. Communication and collaboration will continue to be key as we work together to support each young person’s journey. I encourage parents and guardians to stay connected, whether through our newsletters, school events, or by reaching out to our staff whenever needed.
Our school council has, and will, continue to play an important role in assisting in the efficient governance of the school, ensuring that decisions affecting students are centred on the best interests of the students, and enhancing their educational opportunities . If parents, carers, or students would like to nominate for a position on school council for 2025 - 2026, please collect a nomination form at the school front office. Forms will need to be submitted by 4.00 pm on Thursday 6 March.
I look forward to seeing our students thrive, challenge themselves, and achieve their goals throughout the year. Let’s make this a year filled with growth, achievement, and memorable experiences.
Wishing you all a fantastic start to the school year!
Warm regards
